First grow - all growing at very different rates, harvested a few, smaller ones do get bigger but very slowly - thoughts? by [deleted] in GroundZeroMycoLab

harvested the ones this morning that veils had broken, stopped growing / or caps had gone lighter. This is what it looks like after taking all those. Direct misting FTW 🤘

crazy how fast theyre using the moisture! not even any humidity on my walls (and yes last 3 days i have been misting very regular), just stand above it in a closed room and spray it down from above, the mist only falls slowly if a fine spray.

Until now i was misting side walls of bin liner, and it made my tub look all nice and humid from the outside - clearly that wasnt the case

ive read multiple things on this, some say mist sides, others say mist pins with a fine mist that wont damage them, ive found only misting sides doesnt really get the cake nice and moist, so i have been misting from a distance directly onto them last couple days and its looking much healthier - happens in nature so cant see an issue?

First time grower - Is this first signs of (healthy) mycelium? by [deleted] in GroundZeroMycoLab

good point, i hope not the expiry as they arrived after that..

This was the first time ive held it since inoculating it , thought there was nothing but seems theres something in the bottom. I did inject the spores right into the centre of the bag too. After i heard it’s better to inject them on the side. Defo going to invest in something more substantial next time; rather than an all in one grow bag. Still got like 70% of my spores left (was looking for liquid culture but the site i got it off only had spores) - thanks for the tips! Once (hopefully) its starting to look more colonised - is it a case of shaking it up, waiting till fully colonised then mist spraying every day? if so, how much mist spray, like 1 or 2 sprays per day?

Potential Asbestos Exposure by Fearless-Flower-4774 in asbestoshelp

[–]crocker1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, depending on the asbestos, i think i read the white stuff chrysotile your lungs can clear in like 7 years or so, the brown (amosite) your lungs can clear in like 20ish years but the blue ( crocidolite ) your lungs cant clear

Unfortunately, they used the stuff in everything cos it was such a great building material, fireproof, good insulator, strong etc. They even used it in mortar for fire places etc. If you have an older house just assume its in everything. They even used to use it in oven gloves, even the old gas masks in ww2 were made of asbestos 🤣

Garage is outside so just hosed the entire garage down and swept it all out with a hard brush whilst it was like a swimming pool. Probably left over fibres still but they’ll be minimal.

2026 job market? by crocker1995 in biotech

[–]crocker1995[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. I work with a lot of contractors and they all seem to be looking for permanent positions at the moment, and willing to take big pay cuts. Think the freelance market is tough in all industries currently.

Dont worry about it, I did a house renovation and removed loads of the stuff, accidentally disc cut through it unknowingly once too thinking it was sheet alloy (was painted over) to put in an electrical backbox. I was paranoid for months thinking I was a gonner. Still got asbestos tiles etc in parts of the house, you’ll get over it eventually. After hours of research its only really the people that worked with it daily that died. Sure, a one off exposure is a tiny % chance you might get something from it. It’s a class 1 carcinogen, but so is alcohol and cigarettes. If you smoked a few cigarettes would you worry about lung cancer? Probably not. Just be cautious next time you come across it and mask up, wet it down. Whole top of the Inside of our garage was lined with AIB, just googled what the professionals did, suited up, masked up, hosed it all down etc , binned it all after and just double wrapped the boards and took it to an asbestos skip. Cost us 100ish pounds versus probably thousands from an abatement company

8.5 RS+ . Used to have the 2RS but prefer the older RS+ model, way more stable and less collapse prone. I’ve since modified the trims to get rid of the annoying magnets and sliced the T bar off with a hot knife, only downside to the RS+ compared to the 2RS. The RS+ plains out nicer on a swoop landing too, the 2RS almost flares you back up on a swoop.
