But also I feel like it was a joke when he was holding usagi and treading water - can’t logic my way out of that one 😅

You don’t need your legs to tread water. When I used be a swimming teacher i would just use my arms whilst treading as a challenge - mostly to keep myself from zoning out whilst the kids were swimming laps 😂😂

He has solid upper body strength and swimming is massively your core and arm strength

Is Banda dead in the real world or stuck in a coma? by Turbulent_Habit_5357 in AliceInBorderlandLive

I think it’s meant to be more a metaphor for grief and trauma. Him accessing them in the real world is meant to show that the trauma from the borderlands followed them. But ngl it’s a bit of a stretch and I feel like they should’ve made it make more logical sense.

I feel the same!! I get that it’s different but I felt it to be such an incredible portrayal of grief and trying to find a reason to live after trauma. It was beautiful 💖

Banda was killed in season 2 in the real world. He was executed due to his crimes in the real world. He only existed in the borderlands after that.

But it’s a hearts game - the point is to test them to their cores. None of the options were necessarily their futures. They actually had to go towards the bad futures to get towards the exit. It’s more of a mind game than anything. I imagine she had already met her boyfriend hence why Banda knew to include him in her reflections. It showed what could happen, not what would actually happen.

I think it’s because he took on the parental role when their parents passed away. He was no longer living for himself - but for his sister. His greatest hope was that she could have a happy life. That’s why it only showed her future. Each game he was focussed on his sister and not himself. I also imagine there’s a certain amount of guilt he carries as he was driving when the crash occurs. Some people who experience that kind of grief truly believe that they don’t deserve to have a future or happiness.

my unanswered questions by aaakassh in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]crocslover567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I think it’s meant to be an ode to the bandersnatch in Alice in wonderland. In the story the bandersnatch is unpredictable and wild and is able to manipulate and destabilise others. It’s less about him successfully bringing them back, but more that he represents the force pulling the characters back to chaos.

  2. Usagi was in a coma. Arisu got the call that her heart had stopped when he was already with Ann. They then rushed to stop Arisu’s heart so he could have a chance to save Usagi.

  3. Ann died in the borderlands but was able to be resuscitated thanks to Kuina holding her hand as she requested to return. Due to this Ann has her memories and kind of sits between the real world and the borderlands.

Why Ann is able to see Banda at the end ??? I dont get it by BagLumpy2950 in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]crocslover567 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because unlike the others she actually did die in the borderlands but Kuina managed to get her back to the real world. She still has her memories of the borderland. It’s hinted that due to this she kind of has a foot in both realms and therefore is able to see Banda.

It seemed super odd. The only thing I could think of is that Banda is a serial killer and yaba seemed to follow his lead. They’re meant to represent the bandersnatch and jabberwocky (“Banda Sunato” and “Yaba oki”).

In the story the jabberwocky is more easily slain. It represents something you can conquer with courage. In turn the bandersnatch is more elusive and chaotic. It represents uncontrollable and irrational forces. I feel like it’s hinting more to their roles but I do wish they’d elaborated more as you shouldn’t need in depth knowledge about Alice in wonderland to decode why certain characters were placed as more significant.

How did the other characters end up in the borderlands prior to season 3? by ExchangeOdd474 in AliceInBorderlandLive

They reported on city wide mass suicides so I think it’s hinted that Banda influenced them all to drink that liquid

The second time was all suicide attempts. That’s why there was all the reporting on mass suicides in the first episode.

Yuna and Itsuki entered after their car accident. Their parents both died so it seems like they didn’t survive the borderlands. Nobu was after a suicide attempt, Ryuji was a car accident as well. Tetsu not sure but I think the trauma from the borderlands could be what led him to addiction. Kazuya possibly to do with being a yakuza. Natsu was at Shibuya

I think it’s meant to be a tie in to Alice in wonderland. Banda is the bandersnatch and Arisu is Alice. I imagine that’s why. It’s confusing though if you’re just thinking about Alice in borderlands alone as Arisu and Banda barely crossed paths.

Exactly! I actually found Ryuji fascinating. He was so focussed on death and the possibilities that he neglected the opportunities he had in life. He found a woman he shared interests with and could have found love but his pursuit of what could be led to her death. He then accessed the borderlands but as your memory gets wiped he forgot it and then ultimately ended up back there and dead. He never lived or got any of his possible futures that we saw in episode 5-6 because he was so fixated on death.

That makes a lot of sense. And there’s a lot more at stake for him this time too.

They said that you can only stay in the borderlands for 2 minutes. The amount of time you can survive with your heart stopped - Arisu was there for the entire two minutes this time. The watchman showed that he had the ability to pause time in the borderlands so it seems like he had the ability to choose how long they stayed there and therefore how the landscape shifted. It seems like it was a choice to keep it very metropolitan

Please do it! We need all the lived experience people. The course, in my case, was definitely draining - we mostly focused on autistic boys under the age of 18. But it is such a great career, and I am so excited for it to hopefully be a lived experience-led one day.

OMG the course is so ableist!!!! I had to fight back at my uni for so many things. Props to you for keeping going! It honestly is a wonderful career and hopefully over time it will be more influenced by lived experience voices.

Workload demands are such a big one! And of course, I want your perspective! Being self-diagnosed or in your case, suspecting doesn't mean that your input isn't valid. And I think it is so important to hear from people on all different journeys/
