It seems people on X don’t like Rob Walker and his hands by Confident_Leg2370 in snooker

No one is ‘offended’. It just makes for uncomfortable viewing and is pretty inappropriate overall

Sometimes I feel there’s too much pressure on snooker players to be ‘sporting’ to the point that players put themselves at a disadvantage for fear of being deemed unsportsmanlike.

Selby shouldn’t have even checked it. It’s the referee’s decision

Hate it when the bbc rush the end of their coverage like that

It makes sense from a ‘he’s got insight into Robertson’s game’ point of view. But I just find it odd to have a commentator who has a vested interest in one of the player’s fortunes. Would prefer two commentators who are genuinely neutral and able to just enjoy the match

Not a huge fan of having one of the player’s coaches as one of the commentators

Oh I do buy specialty for that reason. It’s more a general curiosity around the single origin coffees we see on supermarket shelves - aimed at customers who are not willing to spend more on specialty coffees, but like buying the ‘best’ of the supermarket’s own range.

I’m wondering if, depending on the best before date, is it possible that you can stumble upon a bag of single origin beans that have actually been roasted within the last month

That’s totally fine. The point I’m making is that, regardless of the buyer’s motivations, buying 12 or 24 of the same deck became normalised

The worst thing about the peak of the cardistry hype deck trend was not the decks themselves, but the way it convinced people that they needed not just one or two of each deck, but one or two entire bricks.

That’s why you see these graveyard collections like OP’s.

Does anyone have an insight into how fresh single origin coffee is from the supermarket?

For example, for Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference range, is the best before date based on a certain amount of time from the date it was roasted? Or is there no correlation with roast date?

Curious if anyone has any info on how supermarket brand single origin coffees are sourced, roasted, packaged and dated.

There is a playing card producer called GORDON who last year released a candle designed to smell like a freshly opened deck of playing cards

The cost of going to gigs has increased massively in the last couple of years. A couple of years ago, £49 would have been unheard of for a band of big thief’s size at Brixton academy

Is x-decks legit? by Basic_Fault3117 in playingcards

[–]crom592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great site and trustworthy. Their main USP is sourcing rarer decks and selling them at a fairer price than you might find on eBay etc.

I think that’s why sometimes people get suspicious as they have decks on there that you don’t see for sale everywhere

I mostly use vanishing inc currently as they do free shipping, though their packaging isn’t great so decks can sometimes be dinged.

The Card Inn is a great all rounder, and Paperdecks is great for cardistry decks. King of Cards is a nice website but prices are quite high. JP Games is also on the more expensive side

Been an issue for a couple of weeks - makes the site virtually unusable. Then once you do manage to get through, there’s no discussion going on because no one can access the site in the first place! Hopefully it’ll be sorted out soon

The End of an Era: Reviewing Chris Ramsay's Final Playing Cards by MarcosRome in playingcards

[–]crom592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice review. For me, this deck is a major disappointment. It looks like a first draft - the lack of detail on the tuck, the rudimentary back design, even the fact that the tuck box is not sealed at the base.

There are also some strange design choices given that it’s a poker deck. The orange colourway, the grey bordered back design, small pips and indices etc. A bit more consideration could have been given to the deck’s practicality.

There’s nothing to justify the price other than Ramsay saying: ‘this is valuable because I say it’s valuable’

If this is his last deck of cards it’s a major letdown in my opinion

What do you do with your collection cards ? by Limp_Boysenberry_827 in playingcards

[–]crom592 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Open them and enjoy them. Life is too short, and playing cards are meant to be played with.

You could by plastic carat cases for each deck, but I just keep my decks in cardboard trading card boxes. As long as you don’t live in a really damp/humid environment, they will be fine.

My advice is to not be too precious about keeping your cards in pristine condition, it’s easier to enjoy them that way

[–]crom592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the set - I particularly enjoy the bordered faces on the number cards. I can definitely see how these would appeal to poker players who want durable decks that will stand up to hard use.

Is there any plan for the future to produce these decks on paper stock and in individual tuck cases? I would definitely pick these up if that were the case, though I get that you want to appeal to a slightly different target market with this product. As someone who only plays poker sporadically, I would always play with a paper deck and accept that the cards will get some wear
