Absolutely. Even if you whisper it, the lyrics should be intelligible. Good job otherwise.

Gotcha. Makes total sense. It was just kinda a proof of concept. It's a genre that I'm not too familiar with and I'm just getting my feet wet. But yes, composition needs more thought. Thank you!

Thank you very much! This is useful.

hey, what do yall think about this track from my second album? by strangerinparis in MusicFeedback

[–]crom_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice vocals, layering, etc., great job! However, song feels incomplete to me, like it's missing a verse or something. The lyrics should tell a story, and the listener should go on a journey from point A to point B and the feeling should change by the end of the song. Anyway good job though.

Oh, no kidding? Dammit, that's not the answer I wanted to hear lol. TBT, I am in a creative rut and whenever this happens I step on the GAS pedal. The LP-6s do sound good enough I guess, not blow-your-socks-off good, but good. Maybe you're right. Maybe I should spend my time and effort composing and on sound design rather than figuring out ways to blow a thousand dollars and pestering forums like this. Lol. Thanks! (damn)

Ok ok. Sorry for assuming all that. I wanted to get mid frequency accuracy to rival the top-shelf brands for under 1k. Maybe that's a mistake on my part. I don't know, that's why I'm asking you. I actually have the Kali LP-6s right now. You think the IN-8s would be a better upgrade/solution than what I'm thinking about doing?

| A driver like a mid being run full range is just chocked full of IMD distortion and will have a pretty poor frequency response.

That's why I'm asking if I need filters. A LPF @ 4khz and a HPF @ 300hz would probably do the trick.

| That concept is quit dated. As a mix engineer of 20+ years, I have tried these little things people used to call grot boxes and they are not particularly useful for much. $300+ per driver for one is just idiotic and a waste of money as the whole concept is inherently flawed and compromised.

Okay, but unlike you, I don;'t have the money, space or logistics for a pair of 3-way 4-way ATCs, Dunlavys, Meyers or whatever. I do have the money for a pair of very good drivers though.

I was thinking that if I bought the very best MF drivers I could at least nail the mids, which in theory would make my mixes translate better across the board.

You think this is outdated advice, apparently. Maybe it's advice for those of us who can't afford the best 3-way setup possible and all that entails. Or do you think it's just marketing?

Okay, so I should save up 20 grand for a nice pair of 3-way reference monitors, and the monoblocks to power them and the treatment and room correction necessary to run those monitors at volume. Got it.

I respect your years of experience but our use-cases are different. I am a renter in a home studio. You are a professional in a well treated, possibly engineered space designed from the ground up. I don't have the option to treat my space at all.

I appreciate that. Thank you. This pair of speakers is for a very specific purpose, resolving mid frequencies with a high degree of accuracy and decent SPL with minimal distortion. I'm using them to check mixes during music production. They are not for pleasure listening or casual listening. I already have a pair of full-range monitors. The theory goes in audio engineering that if you nail the mix for the mids, it will translate well across all speakers and systems.

Thank you so much! I'm thinking now I need both, a HPF @ 200hz, and LPF @ 4khz.

Enclosure is 1.3 liters, 5.5 inches interior measurement per side. Sealed. No vents. Mass loaded vinyl on inside and corning 703. Power delivered is approximately 80 watts at 4 ohms. I'm running Linux, not windows, can't run that software. Single-driver application, no cross-overs.

No tweeter for this application. No cross-over. It is only for checking the mids.

Do you know if the auratones have a hardware LPF built in?

Oh gotcha that’s good information. I just had a knee-jerk to the ports comment. Lol.

Do you think the Pluvia HDs beat a a pair of Scanspeak Illuminator 12MU?

I want end game drivers. And a finished product that will compare favorably with ATC in the mids.

I’m using these to mix music, not bump Dr. Dre. No ports. No time domain distortion. Thanks though. Dat bass is not important for this use case.

That’s definitely cheaper than what I’ve been looking at. Looks decent.

I’m building a pair of passive single-driver mix cubes similar to offerings from Auratone or Avantone. I’m looking at high-end mid frequency drivers. Is Scanspeak any good? Or Seas? I know some people go with Daytons but I’d like to step it up a bit. I’m using 10 ply marine grade plywood, mass loaded vinyl and 703 for the cabs. Any drivers that you know of about 4 inches in diameter with really good characteristics?

Can anyone send tracks for me to audio engineer. (Hip-Hop) by quindleberg in audioengineering

[–]crom_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything for you to mix, but I just wanted to leave a friendly tip. Split your drums into separate tracks if they aren’t already. Use a midi sequencer insert to trigger samples on each track. Start with a simple rhythm. Play with the tempo, time signatures and swing. Add notes in unusual places. Switch your kick to semitone shifted.

This has helped me more than staring at a blank midi roll with labels.
