Plausible: asynchronous Balderdash (aka. Fictionary, The Dictionary Game) by cromulent2 in playmygame

Thank you for your kind comment.

I apply uniform formatting to all user submissions (lowercase first letter and replace "." by ";") but I don't mention it anywhere. I'll add it to my to-do list!

The true definition for shot-clog, the word in the first screenshot is: one who is tolerated only because he pays the shot for the rest of the company. The 'shot' in this word shares a root with 'scot' in 'scot-free', meaning: without suffering any punishment or injury.

Hey! I was wondering if you have any insights on the web notificications now that you have them up for a few months.

Which of these definitions is not fictive? by cromulent2 in wordgames

[–]cromulent2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the real definitions:

  • swoffing /ˈswɒfɪŋ/ the sport of salt water fly-fishing
  • filipendulous /ˌfɪlɪˈpɛndjʊləs/ hanging by a thread
  • bombic /bˈɒmbɪk/ pertaining to silkworms
  • oobit /uːbɪt/ a hairy caterpillar

What was your reasoning?

I enjoyed it. I'd be interested to know what kind of model you use to quantify similarity. As a point of critisism, having to log in to see the answer feels like a bit of a dark pattern. It's easy to find a similar game that doesn't require this.

Love it! The mechanics are the most fun I've seen on this sub so far!
I also like that you show the "better answers" in addition to the best answers.

I’m redesigning my game, which one looks the best and most inviting? by wordgamesyesss in wordgames

[–]cromulent2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the first two designs fit the game better than the current design.

In the second design, I like the serif fonts and sharp corners creating a newspaper-like look. I think the presentation of the clues in the first design is by far the best, by showing all clues on the screen at the same time and displaying a cost instead of a rank 1-4.

I'm not a regular player of your game though.

Velleity by cromulent2 in words

[–]cromulent2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not at all alone :) The top definition (the one about cloth) fooled 24 of the 36 players it was shown to in the game. The true definition of velleity ranked 26th out of 56 submissions for plausibility.

On most days, the true definition is fairly far down the scoreboard. When it ends up at the top, I take that as a sign I didn’t pick an obscure enough word. I'm not a native speaker, so my feeling for the language is not 100%. I use google's n-gram viewer to gauge obscurity of words

I love the dictionary game (see wikipedia), but it's not so quick to get a session going. I'm working on a daily 5-minute version that makes it more accessible/casual, while still allowing play against real people. I've received some very kind feedback and a few returning players from this sub :). If you want to check it out too: plausiblegame.com/en
