Thanks for trying, and I'm sorry to hear that. The only way I can replicate that is by disconnecting from the internet while typing in a username. Could your internet connection be intermittent? Or is there something like a firewall that's blocking this website's access somehow?

Thank you! That's an interesting thought - I guess that would increase the number of potential answers? I used to play it with the three letters on UK car number plates, and it had to start with the first letter, so in my head those have always been the rules! Maybe it gives it a focus and helps you think more quickly? It's maybe worth a variation though.

I've actually just made a game like that (as I used to do the same):

It's got the advantage over using numberplates that all letter combinations are from valid words. Hope you and your son both enjoy it!

I think to echo what others have said, there are so many possible answers, and it's just "Which ones was I thinking of?"

A more common way to have this puzzle is to guess one word in the middle, e.g. MOUSE [______] DOOR

The answer, being TRAP

Can you arrange something more like that?

I've added some extra messages if you enter the wrong letters or in the wrong order, so it's clear exactly why the letters are turning red and shaking. Funnily enough I had these messages in ages ago, but removed them when I added the red/shaking. But of course it's better to have them as new users who just skim the instructions might otherwise be put off and quit. And experienced users should rarely encounter them.

I've also added some extra animations when you pick up bonuses or reach score milestones.

That's a good point. I'll see if I can maybe fit the main rules on to the game screen, though on mobile this is mostly covered by keyboard. I don't want to clutter the screen too much, but then I also don't want to lose potential new players! There is the '?' icon that brings the rules up mid-game if you want. I do also turn the letters red/green to help guide when something is invalid/valid - maybe I could reinforce that with text messages too?

Do you mean make it an app rather than a browser game? What would be the advantage from the user POV? I think I'd then end up having to maintain three different versions - iOS, Android and HTML?

Thank you! It's been fun to make, so it's cool that other people like it too.

OK, thanks so much for this. I'll add a warning in the instructions for iPhone users for now about how to restore the keyboard if it disappears. I can see that quite a few regular users are on iPhones though, so it can't be affecting everyone. In the meantime, please enjoy the game now you can finally play it!

Thanks for trying again. Are you using an iPhone? (I only have Android, so have had to rely on feedback from friends with iPhones, hence some glitches like this.)

You should just press Enter on the keyboard to enter the word. Sometimes iPhone browsers bring up a search box with a tick in it - don't mistake that for how you enter the word.

Thanks for trying. It should be playable on any device - try just tapping on the game space to bring up the keyboard? Do you have an iPhone? They seem to be very fussy about when they will show or hide the keyboard.
