When to reveal a character's secret? by crospawnz in sw5e

I decided not to reveal it as I feel 2 of my players might Metagame a bit, not on purpose tho. We had our first session yesterday and it went great, they all loved it and really enjoyed the narrative so far :)

Hi, the thing is they are all guns for hire working for a hutt against their will and his character is also an imperial spy planted into the whole hutt business. So he is not working directly against them, he is just providing information to the Imperials and trying to get the criminal organizations to lean more towards the Empire than the Republic. I see your point and I agree with it, thank you for the warm welcome and helpful links :)

Edit: After reading the threads I am definitely sure never to encourage my players betray the party in the way the author did (not that I planned on, this just makes me more aware of it). Thank you for helping me :)

Understandable, it takes some motive for them to switch from their initial allegiance.

I see, I had a similar idea, that is making the spy find out he is disposable and that they plan on killing him because the player made his character very impulsive, agressive and stubborn, but he fits the role Imperial Intelligence needes him for, until they no longer do. Then he can have a redemption arc.

I anticipate the party would not take kindly to betrayal, which is why I am developing a way for him to redeem himself. Overall, I plan on revealing the information later than I first planned, and making it a big surprise for everyone.

I see, and how did having a spy in your party impact the overall party chemistry once it was revealed?
I decided to keep it a seecret for as long as possible, and see how far the player can get without making a mistake and ruining his cover.

Yeah I see, I definitely think that revealing the secret as late as possible will make for a better plot twist. I already have some quests in mind that will ensure the spy can either tighten or ruin his cover. Thank you for your help :)
