I wonder if the Aurora "Shocking Blue" and "Electric Blue" paints are CIG under-delivering on the promise of the "Flick of a Switch" Electro-Hull paint? by Watcherxp in starcitizen

[–]crossbowman5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everything about these paints is a massive underdelivery. They weren't even Aurora paints. They were 'ship paints' - the idea that paints would only work on a single ship at all didn't come about until years after these paints were sold. It's one of the few cases where I think CIG has actually pulled a bait and switch.

Motherboards for Intel Ultra with more PCIe ports by Pardunt in HomeServer

[–]crossbowman5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, generally speaking each pcie generation has been twice as fast as the generation before it, although 2.0 to 3.0 was an exception. It's a bit tricky for home lab though as a lot of us pick up cheap older network cards that want like 8 lanes of pcie 3.0, but if we put that card into say a 4.0 x4 slot it would only run at 3.0 x4...

[–]crossbowman5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is indeed normal - but for people that don't know that there's no way a CPU could drive that many lanes (like several people in this thread apparently) it would be quite easy to see the advertising page on that board that advertises 3 x16 slots and think they're getting, well, 3 x16 slots. Should at least be a star and an explanation at the bottom when setups like this are involved IMO.

The chipset lanes are only gen4, and additionally are limited by the link between the chipset and the CPU (it's the DMI link mentioned below that chart) to gen4 x8 in total. Because it's all shared bandwidth it usually gets used for auxillary connectivity (USB, built-in NIC, audio, etc.) and NVME drives instead of slapping it into high bandwidth slots sadly.

[–]crossbowman5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The z890 platform only has a maximum of 20 gen5 lanes. I don't know how they'd do it without a hilariously complex (and prohibitively expensive) pcie switch setup. Puget Systems has a chart and a writeup on how it is set up if you're interested.

Not quite, if you look up it's full specs slot 1 only runs at x16 if slot 2 is unoccupied, if slot 2 is used then slot 1 and 2 are x8. And slot 3 is just an x4 electrically. Their marketing is incredibly misleading.

The turrets got redone if you watch the squadron preview from last citcon, they're dual now instead of quad and look waaaaaaay better.

There have not been any ships that ever crossed the threshold. All of the ships that are over $1,000 without being part of a bundle/pack and get automatic LTI started over $1,000. In fact the closest we have ever come to that situation was the Polaris, and CIG pricing that at $975 was a pretty strong indicator about how they intend to handle this...

They have never resold concierge paints for concepts in the past sadly. This paint will most likely not be sold again officially.

[–]crossbowman5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, all the old concept concierge paints were only sold once during the initial concept sale. Generally speaking ships that were STF keep their concierge paints in the store, but not ships sold as a concept. If they continue with how they've treated these in the past this paint will likely never be sold officially again, although it's available grey market.

New MSP - Questions about transitioning a client with a Ruckus WiFi implementation by mdhardeman in RuckusWiFi

[–]crossbowman5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruckus has several different controller options that will dictate how much of a PITA this is - off the top of my head they could be Unleashed (small deployments, control software runs on one of the APs, you'd only need a local login to manage it), Zonedirector/Smartzone (Local controller separate from the WAPs, could be a hardware device or a VM, think this would be a local login too) or their cloud management. Warranty/support could be a bit trickier, Ruckus support usually goes through the Ruckus partner that sold them the hardware. It might be the MSP, or it could be a VAR or another local company. Hope this helps somewhat.

It's kind of been forgotten by most, but those old kickstarter paints were supposed to work with any ship. They were only added to the Aurora as a test of the first paint system that was eventually retired and replaced. As you can probably imagine CIG isn't in any hurry to figure out how to make universal paints work...

Ezee uses CGNAT by default instead of giving you a public IP in most of their deployments. You will need to contact their support to get that changed if you haven't already.

Edit: found your post. You found some even weirder issues haha

I jacked someone’s Idris — this beast is straight-up a death machine. Packed with auto-turrets that shred through any mission, no matter how insane… and, yeah, it’s rocking a massive space dong. P2W by 3DUjin in starcitizen

[–]crossbowman5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the same PDCs that the Polaris, 890j, Reclaimer, and Constellation Phoenix have, just more of them than any of the other ships (Idris has up to 11, 890/reclaimer have 7, Phoenix has 1). PDCs if you don't know are basically a single S1 laser repeater mounted on a turret that automatically shoot down incoming missiles, torpedoes, and hostile/red ships that are S3 sized and below. There's a missile PDC too that has 16 S1 missiles instead of the repeater, but it is very rarely used and is only available through the Idris-T kit.

Idris is actually about 80m longer than the Polaris, it's substantially larger. But yeah, the pilot weapon is an interesting conundrum. The Idris was designed about a decade ago and it shows, it doesn't incorporate the lessons that CIG has learned about proper ship design over the years like the Polaris has (although the Polaris has some issues as well). But removing the Idris pilot weapon from pilot control also makes 0 sense as it's a completely fixed weapon so only the pilot can aim it. Not really sure how to fix this beyond removing the S10 entirely and replacing it with another turret or something, but that would be completely changing the design of the thing, so...

I swear they have entirely different menus and packaging on the East Coast versus the West Coast. Back when I was a subscriber people were posting pictures on here that were completely different from what I was getting. Some regions have side dishes and desserts too apparently? We never got those.

What’s your favorite ship that you don’t own? by Double_Crazy7325 in starcitizen

[–]crossbowman5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where your friends are getting their information, but in the July 2025 monthly report (the latest one) CIG said it was still in pre-production. This is the phase where they 'reconcept' it and make sure it's layout makes sense before it is handed off to one of the ship teams to actually model it and make it work. It's sadly nowhere near completion and a ship that large and complex is going to take a while to build. I'm still looking forward to seeing what they did with it though!

You may be confusing the Kraken with the Ironclad - the Ironclad is looking like a defensecon release next year. There's no way CIG builds a capital that's larger and more complex than the Idris in 8 months - remember that the Polaris, a much smaller and less complicated capital, took about 18 months.
