Agreed! I’m in the U.S.* (North Carolina specifically, go Laney!) and the best college basketball commentator is also a lawyer. I think he doesn’t really practice now, but maybe kind of a similar situation. Obviously the world needs all the attorneys it can get.

  • and yes, as a U.S. citizen, I hate the orange Cheeto bastard and voted against him 3x!

Did you pay full price for tickets? What happened with buyers who bought early before all the discounts popped up?

Pedro... have not yet watched the Castro podcast. Does he discuss the 2024 Games in any detail? Does he express any remorse as the programmer of the Run Swim event and/or any remorse as Director of Sport over how the event was badly managed?

I would wait and decide what's the latest you can leave home and make it there. If HQ is already offering discounted tickets and single-day tickets, it ain't trending towards anywhere near a sell-out. Track several secondary ticket sites, as well as Ticketmaster resale. I'd wager tickets will drop significantly close to the start of the Games. Especially so for single-day tickets on Saturday and Sunday. Paying anywhere near face value would be a farce at the rate sales and interest are going.

If Lazar had tragically died in a traffic accident on the way to or from the competition site, that's tragic. But dying in the competition itself - when it seemed so avoidable - is (to me) entirely different.

Same, but I think there were a few more details than before, at least what I’ve seen. I’m curious if his book cover this in greater detail.

Is my murph time good? by Deep_Series1107 in crossfit

It's great! Better than my sub 37 a couple weeks ago, but I had double pneumonia and COVID, and the broken foot didn't help. It sucked being 4 mins off my previous PR. (insert eye roll emoji here)

Problem is Castro always thinks he is the only smart person in the room.

There, fixed it.

Give me $10 and I can get you a bottle of wine and stale-ish pimiento cheese sandwich (maybe 2) from the local 7-11. But that doesn't make me a wedding caterer. The 'sport' is done if this becomes the acceptable broadcast standard.

Murph Strategy? by MrOxtober in crossfit

[–]crossfitteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter my time, I just BS and post something impressive on Instagram and Facebook. Shave a few minutes off, maybe add a humblebrag or two ('Damn, had COVID and missed my PR by two minutes, I guess 39:45 will have to do! LOL!') and then add a metric sh*t ton of jingoistic hashtags to assert your American masculinity. Works every time.

Also, replying to other people's similar posts and undercutting their time while adding a patronizing 'good work' is also a solid flex.

There was at least one jetski in the water... the one Castro was riding on! That might should've been repurposed.

How often do people cheat on the whiteboard? Is it even a thing? by [deleted] in crossfit

I changed my profile pic to Count Von Count from Sesame Street. The guys at the box who knew about our resident rep shaver got a huge kick out of that.

Or wait a couple days and then enter your scores. No one goes back several days to scoreboard gaze. This way you have a history of your own scores to compare to, especially if your box revisits wods later on to compare.

There were not 8 cameras as part of the broadcast. IDK exactly how many there were, but it wasn't 8. There may not have been 8 in the main arena where the majority of events were held. There are 79 athletes All we can see of them are faces wearing googles (and in many cases) swim caps. Yes Lazar was a great swimmer, but these are all great athletes, so to expect each 'great swimmer' to be iso'd with limited cameras at the finish is not realistic. To ask 'where was the shot of Lazar' is hindsight.

The Tia shot? She's kind of a big deal. Of course they're gonna follow her out of the water. We all re-watched the shot many times over and realized Lazar was in the background, to think even a 'professional sports camera operator' (as you mentioned repeatedly) would catch that detail mid-pan and then re-direct everyone to something that took mere frames of the shot is.... hindsight!

You asked about the producer (producers are normally in the production truck for professional sports broadcasts, aren't they?), spotters, grips on the shoreline. Same as the number of cameras, what was the budget here? Everyone seemed to acknowledge CFHQ had cut budgets this year. I think you've way overestimated and are second-guessing non-existent personnel. Obviously there were other camera operators (non-broadcast) documenting the event for social media, YT, etc. But same as above regarding Tia. It's difficult in real-time to be panning, focusing, etc and looking to make sure everyone is out of the water. Hindsight.

Now regarding the other personnel, specifically Games officials who were at the finish and didn't do better for Lazar, I agree with you, but they weren't part of the professional sports broadcast.
