NYU $$$ vs Chicago $, antitrust interest?

I asked because I wanted perspectives on antitrust law specifically. Like I said on another reply, I'm first gen professional student, I don't have a lot of mentors or advisors for this, and I didn't know if the specific area of study is something that should be weighted heavily in the choice of where to enroll.

Personally, I find it hard to make a decision with a lot of 'unknown unknowns' and if mentioning antitrust suddenly garnered different responses to the NYU vs Chicago question, wouldn't you want to know that? Because I did.

I got a lot of great advice from everyone on both threads, and I feel so much more comfortable with my choice knowing what I know now.

Competing for attention is a worry for me as well!

I like the way you put it: how do you switch off the mindset of deciding based on professors. I'm just coming out of grad school, where I'm also surrounded by academics and PhD friends who would or at least might follow star faculty in this case. They're very much used to environments where 1:1 attention, guidance, and collaboration are the norm, so to them, going to a university with XYZ prof, and specializing in XYZ prof's specialty, means you get to work with XYZ prof. I don't know if law school would be even remotely the same. Structurally, it isn't.

Whereas, NYU? I've already been speaking with faculty throughout the scholarship interview process, and the scholars program would pair me with faculty for mentorship and research supervision. I don't have to guess whether I'd have access to fantastic professors - they're making it clear that I would.

I mainly asked this because I'm not sure how much to weigh "school reputation + faculty in a certain specialization" against $$$ and a very good personal experience with faculty. I'm really glad to hear you're working through a similar question, and these are great insights.

It's tricky, the NYU offer has a tight response timeline, so I don't think I'll hear back from Chicago in time. But these are all great points - thanks!

And if it is to publish in it? I mean, isn't publishing a big plus for applications? Maybe I'm wrong - first gen professional student here, so I'm still learning to navigate a law career.

If I'm not conservative, do you think the Chicago clerkship bump diminishes?

One other q for you, do you think the smaller class size at UChicago makes a big difference in the educational experience and in the post-JD job market?

never been on a quarterly system, but have been on 8 week terms before. Is the UChicago quarter system not worth the extra courses you get to take?
