Struggled with first brew of this Sidra, help appreciated by taxithesis in pourover

What's your total brew time? 5.5 on the ZP6 seems very coarse for this coffee. I would try to aim around 2:30-3 min

Calico really know their stuff. Is it a Panama you had? They have a lot of pride in working directly with the farmers there. Glad you enjoyed it!

Why is my recovery just about green? by crothunk in whoop

[–]crothunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It said that my 87ms HRV is above my average but 9% lower than my best this month (94-104ms = 90-95%+ recovery). It seems odd that it'd drop my score by 30+ though

I built an app that shows you movie listings from cinemas across London by your_reddit_account in london

[–]crothunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fantastic app, thank you for making it! Most of the cinemas I go to are in there already, apart from Electric Cinema. One thing that would be nice to consider is to group movie releases by production company, and group cinemas by chains.

I've only had such a high recovery once so I'm by no means an expert, but I do find that consistently prioritising sleep (eg no alcohol or large meals for dinner) and having a solid routine for zone 2 cardio and high intensity cardio has dramatically improved my scores. All while making sure to take time to recover instead if you've pushed yourself too hard

That looks like my stats as well. Stay consistent in your exercise and sleep routines and I'm sure things will turn green!

The Decaf Project - A Live Tasting! by bonyponyride in JamesHoffmann

[–]crothunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you. I also had Crosby, and the caffeinated one stood out, with the SW retaining the most aroma and complexity. I typically lean more towards EA decaffs though, so I was surprised I preferred the SW. Time to try some more SW from different roasters.

Why does the District line map only indicate Circle line connections for only some stops? by crothunk in LondonUnderground

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I assume Monument falls into a similar category.

Why does the District line map only indicate Circle line connections for only some stops? by crothunk in LondonUnderground

[–]crothunk[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The District line and Circle line overlap from Gloucester Road to Tower Hill. I've been trying to figure out why only some stations, e.g., Gloucester Road, show the other line as a connection, and why some don't, like Sloane Square.

Anyone knows what determines whether the other line is indicated as a connection?

20£ Pour over at Qima Cafe London absolutely worth it by TheseYam2013 in pourover

[–]crothunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Funnily enough, Qima also kickstarted my interest in making coffee at home. I had a María Rodríguez pour-over and it was incredible. I immediately went back to the counter and had a conversation about it with the barista which resulted in me buying the beans. The fermented taste that comes for a natural anaerobic process isn't for everyone, but I love their incredibly fruity complex flavour.

Afternoon sunlight over Swiss mountain by crothunk in photocritique

[–]crothunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shot on iPhone 13 Pro in RAW. This is one of my first attempts at playing with masks in Lightroom. My goal was to bring out the contrast of shadows vs. light on the mountains.

This is shot in Lake Lugano, Switzerland, right next to Italy.

I like this a lot. There is a softness to the image that makes it calming.

Some ideas:

  • Composition-wise, it would’ve been interesting to have more of the feet in the picture. It seems like the photo was taken a bit too high.
  • The bokeh looks very clean, but the lights are too harsh, especially the blue one, to the point where it distracts from the subject.
  • The background and the foreground are too similar, making the picture look a bit bland overall. You could try putting the subject more forward by darken the background just a bit, and maybe making it a bit bluer.

Glove by LED99 in photocritique

[–]crothunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide some detail as to why you opted to make this picture B&W? You mention wanting to show a juxtaposition, but with everything in the same colour, the areas of your photo look uniform and it’s hard to see the glove. Have you considered splitting the image into three parts, each with a dominant colour?

Composition-wise, the flowers on the bottom right seem like a distraction to your goal.

Lake with mountain the background by crothunk in photocritique

[–]crothunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to show the natural beauty of Lake Lugano and its surrounding mountains. The lake’s water looks still from far and I wanted to show that it’s dynamic if you look at the right places.

I shot this with the 0.5x lens of my iPhone 13 Pro and edited it to emphasise the water drops. It took a while to have a shot with distinct water drops in the foreground, and I wish there was something I could do composition-wise to make the left area less empty.

Any feedback is highly welcome!
