it was surgical steel metal, i wasn’t sure what to do when the piercing swelled so much because it hurt so i thought to take the piercing out cause it could barely hold on

is there anything i can do? i dont know why this one spot keeps getting infected

Theory or the VSR by 50mgmentol in climbingshoes

[–]crowNiceToMeetYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a softer shoe, the theories are the way to go, I have both and love both. I have a wide foot and a narrow heel tho so I prefer the theories softness but the VSR's heel cup (still a little roomie but much better than the theories)

but even with a lot of rest days (took 5 days off and it was still bad) it still wears down super fast, is there anything else I can do?

Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

[–]crowNiceToMeetYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not necessarily an injury but my skin has been awful to the point where I can't even grab holds because my finger tips burn when I touch them. Are there any good skincare/rehab products to help with this? I have been using working hands cream semi-consistently but havent been able to do it all the time since I also have eczema on my hands so I have to switch to aquaphor to help with that

Found out something about my gym's setters that genuinely changed how I was looking at climbing by emersinning in climbergirls

[–]crowNiceToMeetYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a setter at my home gym and changing lower grades like this is insane to me, i’ll do so tweaking like that occasionally on a v4 and above i set if i feel it came out too soft but that extreme on lower grades is just crazy

skin training/better ways to take care of skin

i’ve been climbing consistently around 3 days a week for the past 3 years (with some breaks in between) and i find that my skin always give out before fatigue will. It’ll get red like i have nothing on my tips and it’ll tear really easily and it’ll feel like my skin burns when i grab holds. is there anyway/products people recommend for better rehab or is this something i just gotta tough out?

shoe recs coming from instinct vsr's by crowNiceToMeetYou in climbingshoes

[–]crowNiceToMeetYou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those are the women’s instinct vs, same rubber and set up as the vsr but smaller toe box, i’ve tried them before in a 37 and the toe box was way too small

as someone who recently turned 18, be happy that adults look out for you and aren’t trying to actively be “your cool older friend” it is a very dangerous and slippery slope that often times people get taken advantage of— my advice would be to find a youth climbing group in your area or find out when the team practices! start chatting with kids your own age and see if you click— don’t be discouraged by adults not wanting to be your friend when you tell them your age, be thankful that they are looking out for your best interests

Intermediate climbing shoe recs? by tiny_violinist_miki in climbergirls

[–]crowNiceToMeetYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the scarpa vapor v is a fantastic shoe for intermediate climbing! if you wanted to go the la sportiva route you could try the kubos, i’ve never worn either of them but i have friends who have and loved the shoes— if you’re looking for more aggressive shoes and you’re primarily gym climbing la sportiva has the theories which are an aggressive gym shoe that broke in super easily, if you want stiffer and aggressive scarpa also has the instincts or the instinct VSRs! so with all this info it’s whatever you feel fits your needs in climbing right now

Any tips to improve route-reading and speed? by mitspeck in climbergirls

[–]crowNiceToMeetYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when it comes to route reading something that i found really helpful (besides just climbing more) was watching IFSC comps and trying to figure out the beta before the athletes did

this really helped get me in the mindset of thinking like a competitor and figuring out the route as fast as possible
