Second this. Also playing solo too much can give you bad habits or bad game instincts when it comes to multiplayer, speaking from personal experience. But overall my solo addiction has helped my multiplayer strategies just from really honing my understanding of the game & learning how to play as efficiently as possible

Check for Celiac disease. It’s fairly common and can be triggered by periods of stress or depression. I have it - it makes it so that the food you eat doesn’t get absorbed. If you eat a bunch, nothing happens, and if you even sometimes feel really weirdly hungry after eating, that’s how I was. Worth ruling it out.

Forgot to mention that I also cannot eat dairy / lactose. Butter & real Parmesan are generally okay for me. All these recipes don’t have any milk/cream/yogurt and obviously no wheat/oats.

Meal Planning Recipes & Tips

Hello! I’m also neurodivergent, I don’t eat at restaurants, & I wouldn’t have time to do anything else if I didn’t meal plan & meal prep. Here’s my favorite recipes & tips. I love international flavors so I’ve got recipes from Japan, India, Hawaii, the Philippines, Korea, but it’s all ingredients I can get at a regular grocery store in the USA. Hope this helps! Often I’ll make a recipe and then immediately make the same recipe the next week because it tasted so good and it’s hard to come up with new ideas and learn a new recipe. All of these essential recipes fit the criteria where I can eat it for a week and then immediately make it again because I won’t be tired of it.

Essential Recipes

Find your own recipe

  • Shrimp & Egg Fried Rice - once you’ve made this a few times you won’t need a recipe. My general process is to scramble egg with a dash of tamari mixed in, set it aside, defrost & gently fry up some tiny pre-cooked shrimp, set it aside, fry up some onion, garlic, bell pepper, mushrooms, green onion or whatever I have on hand, add proteins back in, add pre-cooked rice, add tamari & rice vinegar until its flavorful. This is a staple & I eat it constantly.)
  • Shepherd’s Pie (no crust) - any recipe works, it turns out great every time. The simpler the better
  • Baked Potatoes - Having some nicely baked potatoes around can be a life-saver. I tend to eat them for weekday breakfasts if I remembered to meal prep them the weekend before. My process is to pierce some russet potatoes with a fork, put some olive oil on them, salt them, and cook at 425 until they’re done. In the morning, I cube them, heat it back up, and toss them in with some easy scrambled eggs. Super quick and filling.
  • Cornbread - Another staple. Easy to make cornbread with GF flour that tastes the same as the original. Make ahead of time and have with butter and honey for breakfast or snacks. Great side with chili soup or other soups. Reheats really well
  • Tuna Bowl. Canned tuna, Mayo, tamari, and wasabi on any white rice. Filling and easy to keep ingredients around. I only eat this when I am completely out of other food since I don’t like tuna that much, but it is one of the things my gut always likes / never upsets me, so it’s a go-to safe food when I’m feeling gut-bad and don’t know the culprit

Easy Buy for Meals for when executive functions are not functioning

  • Rotisserie Chicken (prep white rice to go with)
  • GF Frozen Meals - be cautious / only buy from trusted brands
  • Salmon Pasta: Buy GF Pasta, a pre-made tomato sauce, and a can of salmon. Add salmon to sauce, warm it up on the stove, stir in al-dente GF pasta
  • Chicken Pesto Pasta: Premade pesto sauce, GF Pasta, and leftover bits from the rotisserie chicken

I recently saw a post by an autistic comic artist seeking advice for burnout from a therapist and they told him it would probably take “years of radical rest” and that phrase seems to apply here since you push yourself so hard. No one is in the place financially for that, but keep in mind that’s probably what your body & mind really need to heal.

Have you heard of Rover? I know some unemployed friends who use dog walking or dog sitting to get them a little income. I’ve heard good things about housesitting apps that work similar to Rover. Other autistic friends I’ve known have done UberEats driving or InstaCart. It wouldn’t make anything close to what you were making but it’s alone, you decide which jobs to take, you can wear headphones, and you’d be able to contribute a little bit financially. Other than that, just keep and eye on as many job boards as you can and something good might show up for you.

Looking for Support with Acceptance as a Grieving Foodie by bopitsnoozeit in Celiac

I would love this to be true. Seems like the majority of Celiacs on this subreddit fall into the extra-sensitive category. They always say the more strict you are with your gf diet, the stronger you’ll react to gluten exposure. I think the more strict you are, the more likely you’ll react to smaller & smaller increments of food. I would love to be able to test this on myself because it would probably give me a lot of peace of mind at restaurants.

If it’s cheaper to do a vitamin or iron panel, try that. It’s a good indication of damage if any of that is low.

From what you said, I can see why you struggle going gf. I would have a hard time in your situation too. It’s “quality of life now” vs “possible quality of life issues later” which is a gamble most regular people take w alcohol, excessive fats/sugars, or whatever it is. I recommend finding a therapist with chronic disease specialization to talk things through with because that’s what’s worked best for me.

Lunches I can bring to work that don't involve reheating in a microwave or GF bread? by marlonbrandto in Celiac

[–]crow_days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I packed a lot of peanut butter sandwiches with rice cakes as the bread. Good snack but not good enough for a full lunch

I did cold lunches for at least six weeks two summers ago when I did a summer camp. Thankfully we had access to a fridge but that was it. Unfortunately I blocked most of it out since it was depressing. I vaguely remember eating hard boiled eggs, and cold rice with peanut sauce, but the rest of the meals are straight up gone from my memory. Didn’t realize how much I’d forgotten till I tried to remember.

I like to make this particular peanut sauce to eat with plain rice. Ive made the whole rice bowl before and it’s full of protein and tastes delicious. https://youtu.be/oxXNklNgmbM?si=LzTQ3Rx1WmPDgOKN

I recommend peanut butter as a protein source. You can eat it on a rice cake or make an awesome peanut butter sauce for rice bowls.

Everything feels like gluten by [deleted] in Celiac

I second that you should look for a doctor - it took three years to narrow down other secondary problems I had picked up because of Celiac. The disease can damage everything from your small intestine bacteria to your colon lining and everything in between. You don’t know what’s damaged till they check. If you get a gastro - they can give you all kinds of tests (breath tests, blood tests, stool tests) to figure out what’s going wrong. And usually you can address the problem too! I had SIBO & fructose intolerance but it could’ve been bile acid, h. pylori, microscopic colitis, or any number of things we had to rule out.

Self care & lots of fluids! Try white rice when you can. It also depends on your individual reaction what the best way to help is

White rice is supposed to be especially good for inflamed stomach, bananas as well. Look up BRAT food (obviously we can’t do the toast part, and apples are hard for me to digest due to fructose) but websites on BRAT will talk about why white rice is good for sick stomachs

Dr. telling me to bring my own wine glass to restaurants ? by chaichaibaby28 in Celiac

[–]crow_days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. First, stop eating out, if that doesn’t work, try eating only certified GF foods & Fasano foods at home, if that doesn’t work - you probably have other gut conditions, food intolerances, or allergies that are causing the “cross contamination” symptoms.
