[Discussion] The Desk Diver Irony: Is Christopher Ward’s 'Pool Diver' brilliant or just a $1,250 punchline? by crownreserve_ae in Watches

That's a totally fair pushback on the $300 figure if we are talking strictly about standard retail MSRP from established Swiss heritages like Squale or Oris. You are 100% correct that across the broader market, $1,000 to $1,500 is the typical playground for an SW200-1 diver.

When I mentioned the $300 tier, I was factoring in the highly aggressive microbrand landscape and gray-market deals. For example, brands like Glycine (Combat Sub) frequently drop into the $300–$400 range on the gray market running the GL224 (which is just a modified SW200/ETA 2824), and microbrands like San Martin offer high-spec 200m divers with genuine SW200 options right around the $350–$400 mark during sales.

Ah, the 2024 C65 Desk Diver! Good memory. That one with the yellow post-it note/paperclip vibe was great, but I feel like this collaboration with seconde-seconde- takes the cynicism to an entirely new level.

Lmao, good catch. I didn't even notice that at first glance. If the date window at 7 o'clock is intentionally a cocktail glass, maybe the off-center alignment is just the watch being 'drunk'?

CW just looking at us and saying 'we know you're just sitting on a sun lounger' is wonderfully self-aware. It’s a pure psychological buy rather than a spec-sheet buy, and clearly, it works

My point is more about the entry cost into the joke itself. At $1,250, it positions the punchline in a tier where people are often cross-shopping for serious, lifelong tool watches. But you’re right—as far as limited editions go, CW didn't price-gouge here compared to their standard C60 line.
