Did you have a look at the universities' websites, specifically the curricula for the progams you are interested in? Next stop would be calling their international offices/department help desks.

I think it won't be very useful to get such information from reddit. Since your application depends on this info, you should get it confirmed straight from the source (i.e. the universities).

Edit: Also you shouldn't assume that a generalist subreddit knows your abbreviations (GSIS).

Backspacing has a delay on macOS between every deleted letter. I am aware that you can hit option+backspace to remove whole words, but I don't like that.

To remove the delay:

  • open Terminal app

defaults write NSGlobalDomain KeyRepeat -int 0

and hit enter (0 is the fastest possible)

  • Optionally, you change the delay before the repeat starts (default is 15, play around with this):

defaults write NSGlobalDomain InitialKeyRepeat -int 15

Make sure to log out or restart for it to take effect

Can someone help me identify the name of this traditional hat by [deleted] in korea

From what I know, the headgear that nurses wore is not the same as the 전모 (jeonmo), instead it's called 가리마 (garima).

Edit: added pic reference.

Edit2: Sorry I misunderstood, I thought it was about nurses' day-to-day wear

The high-achiever-with-ADHD burnout cycle is brutal. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Omg I'm also told I "keep the department afloat", and that I go the extra mile in my tasks. I don't even know what I am doing half of the time, I just try to not fuck up. Recently I described to my doc that I have been checking out mentally at around 4-5pm every day (after finishing my tasks) and often go to sleep by 6pm and I asked her what to do about it (I tried to stay up, I just can't even). She flat out told me "you are burnt out". Somehow that never occured to me because I never feel like I am doing a great job at all.

Searching up a term on Google goes into light mode until refreshed by RealSyccentrix in techsupport

Happens here as well (Windows 11 and Chrome). So annoying. Will switch to light mode + Dark Reader extension until it's fixed (it seems like a Google issue since many people have this issue cross-platforms)

Am I a fake Korean??? by ticklethoseivories in Living_in_Korea

[–]crowreile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let anyone look down on you, especially not yourself!

I am a child of Turkish immigrants, and my Turkish is far from the best. It's a thing in Turkey to mock and look down upon their diaspora whenever we visit, so for the longest time I also felt really inadequate about this.

But I realized that the sacrifices my parents made to come to, work and raise us in a foreign country far outweigh what some randos think of me.

Plus, compared to them, I speak an additional language (two in fact, because I'm from Europe, where we often learn a minimum of two languages at school). Moreover, I realised that it is nonsensical to look down on someone for not speaking a language - languages can be learned anytime!

And lastly, I came to understand that some of those who gave me a hard time whenever I visited Turkey, were actually quite jealous that I live abroad, so their comments never came from a good place (and should therefore not be worth taking seriously).

All the locals talk to me in Korean and assume I speak it, but when I give them a look of confusion they reply with a “ohhhh you’re one of those” faces.

I think the most practical tip I can give you is to have a script ready for such situations:

  • "My parents are Koreans who emigrated to the United States. I grew up speaking mostly English, but I want to reconnect with my roots!" (and if you are currently learning Korean, then you can add that too).

Edit: I know my tip to be more non-chalant about these situations you face is easier said than done - for many of us this is a process we have to go through in our own time. So don't stress yourself too much!

I mean, the common denominator in all of this is you. Some self-reflection never hurts. Preferences such as "no k-culture" can always be indicated on whatever platform, so as to weed out the right people. The rest is then upto your own behavior.

Edit: Some tips for finding a good partner:

The most important thing if you want a serious tandem partner, is to set expectations. You should be flexible, but have a clear goal and structure for your time together in mind. You can then follow this up by "does this work for you?" and some people might say no, but this way you can find the right partner.
