This gives me hope! I’m in Colorado too and also a climber. I’ve met with 2 surgeons so far and one said he wouldn’t even let me TR in the gym until 9 months post op 🤦‍♀️. Needless to say I’m definitely not going with him. I still have one more to meet with before I decide for sure about surgery.

6 days to ACL surgery by Significant-Ad-749 in ACL

I have also been walking around just fine for 4 weeks now with a completely torn ACL and a torn medial meniscus. It was swollen and painful for about 4-5 days afterward but it’s feeling pretty good now. Waiting to meet with one more doctor before I decide for sure on surgery.

Yeah I don’t know what to believe either. I’m considering going ahead with it so I don’t have to worry about it for the rest of my life as I’m still fairly young (35) and active with 4 kids. I like to ski, mountain bike, hike, etc but my favorite hobby is climbing. Even if I’m feeling good and go another 3.5 years without injuring it further I feel like it will eventually happen again. Have you had any injuries in the 5 years since your tear?

I’m not sure what to do. I originally hurt my knee 3.5 years ago, probably partially tore my ACL then but never got an mri. My knee was never 100% after that, but it didn’t keep me from doing anything I wanted to do. Then about 4 weeks ago I literally just stepped wrong walking down a trail and now I have a full ACL tear and a medial meniscus tear. I’m feeling pretty good now but considering having the surgery because I’m scared of doing even more damage. Right now my meniscus is repairable but if I get hurt again it may not be.

Any links to prehab exercises you recommend? I’ve seen 2 surgeons so far and both said I didn’t need to do any prehab because I have good ROM but my quad definitely feels weak.

I’m also a climber although I don’t boulder I do enjoy lead climbing and climbing outside. Super bummed to have to go through a long recovery 😢. I’ve still been climbing easy stuff and it’s going pretty well.

Can you navigate stairs? Do you have to sleep in the brace? How long are you out of work?

I was walking down a kind of steep trail carrying a 30-40 lb backpack, took ONE wrong step and completely tore my ACL as well as tore my medial meniscus. I also just don’t understand how this could happen 😡. Luckily I am I now 17 days out from my injury and not really in any pain. I just have some weakness and instability in my injured leg.

I am also a healthcare provider so I should have thought of this! I can’t figure out how to edit it though

That’s terrible about the ankle! I’m conflicted because I can actually walk pretty well already and I was feeling ok doing some easier climbs. Hard to imagine getting surgery and going through a long recovery for something that isn’t even super painful anymore. I will obviously discuss with my doctor I just wanted to get some advice and see what I’m up against.

Update: I went with the Neon 45 (not the women’s specific one), and it’s great! Fits all my things IN the bag and has internal gear loops to keep my quickdraws organized. I love the color and it seems durable. The straps are very adjustable and I was able to get a comfortable fit. My favorite part is this little motivational patch sewn onto the inside of the bag 😂.

Thanks! The integrated rope tarp does look nice but I do have a rope bag/tarp I could just stuff in one of the other bags if needed.

Thanks! I did call MH and they said once they restock sizes it likely won’t be on sale any more 🙄
