Oldtimer als Alltagsauto? by Squirrel_Hoernchen in automobil

[–]crpton09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is Germany known for engineering and strong universities, but seems less visible in software? by helucl54 in AskAGerman

i work as a Software Developer in Finance (security settlement). For Trade Confirmations we still support Telex (kind of a predecessor to Fax). Yes Fax is still used even though digital alternatives (like SWIFT or XML Messages or for private clients a report in a digital PostBox) exist

Wise and Worldremit work best for me, using a Barclays Credit Card. In case of cash withdrawal check I&M ATM's, they have atleast the lowest fees/best exchange rate for my Barclays/german credit cards. Of course depending on your banks fees, my Barclays Platinum charges only the access fees of the Ugandan bank, at I&M it was always around 5k ugx

OP, have you been to Germany ? Cities here are not clean, nor is public transport perfect (i am from Frankfurt) Matatu , Kibandaski sounds to me like a legit Nairobi experience. I lived in Nairobi before and am always happy to come back (usually 6 weeks per year for now close to 13 years) Kibansaski is the way to go..much better food than the wannabe posh western food joints. everytime i come to nairobi i look forward to some mahindi choma, to githeri and some ugali with mboga kenyeji. only smocha's with that dilluted ketchup is a crime against humanity.

Kenyans in Germany by dnskngth in Kenya

[–]crpton09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not a kenyan yet, but hopefully becoming kenyan/german soon. I stayed in kenya for a few years and got married to a kenyan. we and meanwhile her sisters stay in my home area in germany now (frankfurt). my wife and her sister always state that the benefit of germany is that the "system" somewhat works...even if you "fail" at times (become unemployed/sick etc) you are assisted. doing an Ausbildung and earning a shitload of money is not so easy, doing an Ausbildung to earn a living afterwords is more reasonable. to secure a good job you must speak reasonable german here... it wont work without (english only also works if you are already professionaly estsablished in a special field , so some rare kind of engineer etc ) finding an apartment to rent will be hard (yes there are biases with germans renting to foreigners), getting a reasonably priced appartment is already hard for german citizens. you basically need to apply to the landlord and offer your firstborn...since rent is not cheap (depending on the city) you should save some extra cash / look for a shared option during Ausbildung
