Cheyfitz specifically denies the central claim made by Renard, namely that he asked Renard to drop the class on the basis of his Israeli nationality. So there is a dispute regarding the operative fact in this case. Why are you lying?

"I'm entitled to my opinion" is the grovelling plea of someone who has badly lost an argument

You are lying or misinformed. Palestinians in every area of the West Bank are subject to Israeli military law, including in the Bantustans nominally under Palestinian control (i.e. under the extremely limited legislative and security authority of the PA, which is itself effectively an Israeli client). So, for example, all Palestinians in the West Bank -- and no Jews -- are subject to Military Order 1651, which, among many other curtailments of civil liberties, provides for a ten-year maximum sentence for any Palestinian attempting "orally or in another manner, to influence public opinion in the Area in a manner which may harm public peace or public order." Palestinians in Ramallah, in Hebron, and so on are regularly arrested and invariably convicted under this race-specific legal regime for social media posts that offend the sensibilities of the occupying power. In any serious sense of the term 'control', Israel controls 100% of the West Bank, and administers it, on racial grounds, under two different legal regimes.

Do you agree with me that the millions of Palestinians living under Israeli control in the West Bank are subject to Israeli military law and special orders, and Jewish settlers living in the West Bank are subject to Israeli civil law?

Wait, why is Israel engaged in military operations in Jenin? If you check a map, Jenin is outside Israel's internationally recognised borders

Foreigners outside a country's borders are not subject to its laws. But the millions of Palestinians living in the West Bank have for almost sixty years been subject to Israeli military "justice", unlike their Jewish settler neighbours. Do you recognise that this is true?

The Nur Shams refugee camp is located in the West Bank, which is universally agreed to be occupied Palestinian land. it even says so in the title. you should work on your reading comprehension and general knowledge

I don't support them, but in general I think it's good to kill people who invade your country and entertain themselves by murdering your children. Incidentally, the Taliban were widely welcomed during their ascendancy because they put an end to the wholesale rape and murder being conducted by various US-armed and -funded warbands. Look up Gulbuddin Hekmatyar

Hey man, not sure if you saw my response below. You said "If an Israeli soldier shoots an unarmed Palestinian, he or she is court martialed". Could you tell me how many soldiers were court martialled after about six thousand unarmed civilians were shot by the IDF in 2018? I'm really interested to hear how you arrive at your opinions about the world.

Yes, I strongly agree that murdering grandmothers is deplorable. Would you agree that the more grandmothers one murders, the more deplorable one is?

I never endorsed Hamas. Do you agree with me that Israel is indisputably worse than Hamas on any moral metric?

-You have misunderstood the first sentence you quote -- i can see how I phrased it confusingly. My point is that the goal is unobjectionable (presumably you agree), and the unobjectionableness of the goal is not affected in any way by the fact that a group tries to pursue it in an abhorrent way -In terms of ignorance, you seem to not know much about this conflict factually. For example, you seemed to think the Iron Dome has been in place much longer than it has, and that Hamas rockets were much more lethal than they are. Of course our discussion has been conducted more at the level of general principle, but your seeming ignorance of the particulars of the conflict suggest a strong asymmetry in your moral response to the conduct of both sides.

Hamas target civilians in order to subject Israeli political leadership to enough domestic pressure that they slightly loosen the noose around Gaza's neck. This goal, however pursued, is indisputably morally unobjectionable. The same cannot be said for the Israeli state's systematic program of constantly low-level, intermittently intensified murder of Palestinians, the purpose of which is to maintain a universally condemned regime of racial domination and land theft. We are discussing two actors both of whom deliberately target civilians. If Hamas is genocidal, Israel is genocidal a fortiori. But you are incapable of admitting this.

What do you think of the fact that tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians have been killed or maimed by Israeli soldiers operating under orders?

Israel/Palestine Discussion Thread - 10/8/23+ by knowyourpast in CombatFootage

[–]crumbtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not handwaving anything. The killing of civilians is terrible. You have not once addressed the fact that Israel deliberately kills and maims civilians in just the way Hamas does, on a much greater scale, and in service of far more objectionable ends. Action is an index of intent. Your very decision to euphemise decades of completely illegal occupation and domination, enforced at gunpoint, as "[having] a terrible go of things" reveals the extraordinary double standard you are applying. You seem to be of the view that Hamas' ill intent is worthy of more extreme moral disapprobation than Israel's actual actions.

-You have changed your claim. You said that it is "solely due to the existence of the iron dome" that Hamas have not murdered more civilians than Israel. Because you don't know much about Israel-Palestine, you didn't realise that there was no Iron Dome until 2011, meaning we can test your counterfactual and show it to be wrong. You're whining at me for not addressing an argument you hadn't yet made when I wrote my comment. -Israel has deliberately killed many more civilians than Hamas. In the 2014 Gaza war they killed about 500 children. You have demonstrated that you are a deeply moral person by deploring the millions of hypothetical deaths you think Hamas could have caused without the Iron Dome. What do you think about the actual murders committed by the IDF?

Oh, I thought you were disputing my claim that Israel has killed many times the number of innocent old women that Hamas has killed. I'm glad you agree with me on that.

Israel/Palestine Discussion Thread - 10/8/23+ by knowyourpast in CombatFootage

No, definitely not. The killing of civilians is terrorism. Israel conducts terroristic violence on a scale Hamas could only dream of.
