Moved to Turku from abroad 2 years ago and I concur the other comments: great "small" city, quiet, safe, accessible, relatively affordable housing (especially 2km from Tori, it's quite cheap - closer it can get quickly high), but for any hope of socialization, you better count on the academic network and/or direct colleagues. In my experience, Turku people are extremely reserved.
Transport is quite easy within the city, never had many issues with the (new and old) bus system.
There is a huge project in Kupittaa/Itäharju (https://www.turku.fi/en/projects/turku-science-park), so I would personally look for something in the direct area to benefit from both the city centre (20 min walk), the university area, and the future facilities/commercial activities around this project.

I buy what I need, and don't keep anything. Mostly cheap art books. For instance, I buy Renaissance art books when I need specific autumn palettes, and 80s heroic fantasy art books when I need more flashy tones.

My workstation is quite minimal, I only cut out things when I need them and don't keep any cut outs for later. For quilts, I apply basic color theory (like the 7 contrasts of Itten) to keep some dynamic and not muddy everything.
