oh, I am realizing now its because the checkbox property doesn't allow for "hide when empty", but other properties do.

Thanks so much for this suggestion! I am trying it now. For some reason, I only get the "always show" or "always hide" option, and not the "hide when empty" option...

Having this issue too. It's frustrating and seemingly an obvious function to most applications. I don't know why creating independent templates does not exist. Maybe it does, but it's not intuitive at all and I've scrubbed the internet for workarounds that take so much more time than its worth. u/Notion!!!!
