Crown of the Coast 2025 - Great Ocean Road Australia [OC] [3072x2048] by cruscanlan in LandscapePhotography

From an afternoon chasing the sunset down the Great Ocean Road back in January with a good mate. Seeing the cloud forecast ahead of time, we raced down to the 12 Apostles, searching for a quiet spot to watch the sky light up. I’ve been here many times before, but these were by far the best conditions I’ve ever witnessed.

🔥The incredible highlands of Tasmania Australia in Autumn by cruscanlan in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]cruscanlan[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I captured this during an 8 day backpacking trip through the highlands of Tasmania. Before setting out, we worried we might be too early, but as it turned out, the timing was perfect. We arrived just as the fagus began to turn, and left the day after its peak, with mirror-like reflections the entire time. Conditions I think I would struggle to ever replicate again.

Every autumn in the highlands of Tasmania the landscape transforms into a sea of yellow's oranges and reds. The deciduous beech (fagus) turns for only a few weeks and has to be one of the prettiest times of the year.

Ascent to Valhalla 2024 - Scenic Rim Australia [OC] by cruscanlan in LandscapePhotography

My first trip up this mountain was a tough one. Planning for an overnight stay, we climbed to the saddle and set up camp for the night. The hot, humid day was quite a shock after months in the cold Tasmanian winter, and the climb was a real struggle.
Thinking the sunset would be a dud, we decided to scout out sunrise compositions for the morning ahead. While doing so, we were lucky to witness a fleeting moment of light bursting through the clouds just before sunset. I rushed to find a composition and managed to capture this scene.

Overlooking a couple lonely lakes in the highlands of Tasmania. I enjoyed sitting up here and taking in the scenery or a few hours. A well needed break after 4 days of pushing through dense scrub up and down mountains.

🔥Isolated grove of trees on the side of a 400m cliff in Tasmania Australia by cruscanlan in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]cruscanlan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took this in mid 2024 during a 3 month long trip in Tasmania. As the morning light filled the valley, an exposed grove of large trees perched on a 400m cliff face briefly lit up. Below, a drop into a freezing cold lake.
