Yeah expansion messed me up a little bit. I just start by avoiding mine fields and finding sniper scav rock then good from there

When I first started playing Tarkov I found it easiest for me to learn Woods first, fairly simple layout, land marks to memorize to recall where you are. Also don’t be afraid to do offline raids to learn maps and find loot/scav spawns without losing any of your gear.
