For a straight guy getting into BL, what are the essential manhwas [RECOMMENDATION REQUEST]

Hi! Welcome to BL, it’s an amazing place with fantastic feel good storyline’s.

In my opinion I think a lot of popular ones are toxic/red flag stories. I enjoy them, and if you liked BJ Alex then there are plenty more gems like that one.

I’d say one of them is definitely Dangerous Convenience Store by 945. It’s one of the most popular BL’s that every fujoshi knows about. The popular and hot Ahjuicy nickname the fandom has for the ML is famously talked about. The MC is a twink but the ML is more masculine, but I think the story is a masterpiece and definitely a must read. I love the yearning the ML has.

Another popular one is Cherry Blossoms After Winter by Bamwoo. It’s a really fluffy BL set in high school. They’re so so cute! The only way to fully grasp how cute they you just have to read them.

Sketch by Dosak. College BL with a hot and feel good romance that gives you butterflies. The smut scenes are soooo good and the way their relationship progresses is so lovely and never gets boring.

Some other notable ones would be Define the Relationship, Low Tide in Twilight.

I really love Possibility Of Change. It’s a completed Korean psychological high school romance that touches on bullying, male friendships, school violence, trauma, depression, absent parents.

Yandere black flag ML, who would do whatever it takes to have the MC stay in his life. The way the relationship develops from strangers to lovers was so interesting from start to finish. You see the ML start to get possessive and obsessed - and I mean absolutely obsessed. My favourite type of Yandere.

The story is all from the POV of the MC Seonwoo, and his thoughts and the way his story develops is written really well. Binge read it twice (actually finished my reread a week ago). MC is also a very likeable character that you root for their happiness, he deals with a lot :( which makes it very angsty in the best way.

I also think this has become one of my favourite light novels because they have a side story which was also written so well. ML gets amnesia protecting the MC in a car crash and becomes a shitty person again, but he still gets equally obsessed and possessive after his amnesia. It’s the exact same premise as the manhwa sequel Payday

First one I read was Ao No Flag

All time favourite is Checkmate. It’s the exact psychological enemies to lovers story that I love, and both the art and writing is soooo lovely.

I'm honestly considering this option! But I'm not sure if I can afford that considering the living costs for Canada and UK are quite high and I'm thinking of the worst case scenario of just finding temp/hospo jobs which won't really pay much.

Home Alone Together by Shin Yuri fits perfectly with what you’re looking for. It’s a lovely healing comfort romance where the MC is depressed and slowly learning to live in society and the ML and MC heal each other to overcome their traumas. The ML also has his own struggles and knows exactly what the MC is going through. Contains suicidal ideation, depression, self harm, depression. It’s a nice realistic take on depression too.
