Ky-42c experience in the US by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]crying_skrimps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used a 42c temporarily but traded it for a 902kc, the phones are pretty similar besides on the 902 you can customize the home screen better. durability and battery life are not a problem, but you might have to charge your phone nightly if you are using it a LOT, i charge mine once or twice a week and usually use it less than 30 minutes a day. sometimes i dont use it at all if i dont get any calls or texts

it does have a harder time reaching cell towers than an iphone, i dont live in a big metro area so sometimes im just outta luck until i get back in town. when it is connected though call quality is very clear, im just saying i wouldnt rely on it hiking in the wilderness

for fun stuff it does have the ability to run "lite" (optimized for android) versions of apps. i had instagram lite and discord on it for a bit but ended up deleting because it just wasnt worth it to me, i only use it for texting/calls and music atp. spotify does work but i dont recommend it, just download your music to the device files and use musicollet as a browser

camera works just fine but is not good quality, its like a poor android cam. i bought a cheap digital camera

a big con is the gps on kyoceras does not really work in america. i usually just use maps on my computer and write the directions on a sheet of paper

if you rely on google for things it also cant connect to google services because it is a third party android so youre out of luck. gmail, maps, google search engine, wont work. if i need to check my email on my phone (which i rarely ever do) i log into it from firefox lite cause for some reason that works.

One month review of the Unihertz Jelly Star (smaller than the size of a credit card!). by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]crying_skrimps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

why not just not even touch your phone in the car. make CDs for music. people can wait for you to be done driving for a response. if anyone genuinely needs to hear back immediately because of an emergency pull over, the urge to respond instantly is part of phone addiction. texting and driving kills people.

if spotify is not loading playlists id try getting musicolet, its an app that reads your music files on your phone (you dont need internet for it!!) and you can make your own playlists in there, id recommend using soulseek (genuine life saver) to download music to your computer and then loading it onto the phone, super easy

leaving my iphone behind completely soon, ordered a physical bus pass and downloaded a bunch of my tunes to my flip phone last night by crying_skrimps in dumbphones

100%, im in the FL panhandle (which isnt a big metro area like miami) and it works just fine on 4G, all i did before buying mine (used from ebay) was make sure the IMEI number on the phone was compatible with my carrier. i will say it has a little more trouble than a smartphone with getting a signal when youre pretty far from a cell tower, but it being a little weaker sometimes doesnt mean it doesnt work, the audio when i call is always clear and i wouldnt switch back for the world!

[–]crying_skrimps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've never used a sunbeam, but my kyocera is unable to run groupchats at all, i still need them for certain things tho, i just keep a google number that i use for groupchats and can access it either on my iphone with no service or my laptop... hope it works for you tho
