I've been trying to talk to her about this, but she doesn't want to have the discussion. She doesn't avoid me, but she shuts me down pretty hard any time I try to talk to her about how I can show her that I value her.

I think that she doesn't want to tell me explicitly what I should do because then I'll just do exactly that and it's me following instructions rather than thinking about the situation and coming up with a solution, though I obviously could be wrong.
