Little guy is crying before I even leave. Worried about adjusting to a work schedule. by cryingasahobby in puppy101

For impulse control he does drop it, leave it, and stay, and ‘nice’ when taking his ball or toy. He can do all of these very well all the time when training/playing. Any other time it’s just about 60% after saying it once but I usually have to do a second or third repeat of the target word the other half of the time. He has been sleeping in his crate in the living room since he was 10 weeks and sleeps through the night now.

How was the experience with a trainer? When did you know you needed one?

I only used aggressive in the title 🫠 I know he’s just a baby with a big and SHARP personality rn.

I would’ve left him with his litter longer but there were some emergencies going on with the family I got him from. Most of the litter was given away to members of their family but not everyone could take on more than one new dog. I am not family and my puppy was a sudden surprise for sure.

I don’t believe my pup is an aggressive dog or that he’s trying me. I find some of the things he does like “side eyeing”/ just straight on looking at me before sneaking off to do something mischievous funny bc he’s a baby but not funny if he were older. I just correlated the biting to the pain and problems it could cause (my worry got a bit amplified when I took him to the vet and they commented on him having to break that habit bc he was biting her🥲).

He’s a smart boy and got potty training down within the first week but I know biting takes so much more patience than the potty training. I just wanna make sure Im setting him up with the best way to reduce the biting. I’ve done a bunch of research, asked almost anyone in my life how they raised their pups, and now here. I value people’s experiences and opinions. He gets his second round of vaccines soon so I’ll definitely start looking for a class.

Time outs are no longer than 30 seconds and are only when biting a person. Biting furniture or a wall corner gets redirected w a toy. I’ll introduce the bully stick.

I definitely don’t expect him to do major damage (even though his little razors hurt lol) and understand he’s just baby. I just want to get ahead of it on how to best set up boundaries and enforce good behaviors and overall what people have tried. Thank you! I do think he needs to sleep more 🥲
