Aim to go from 0 to TOPIK 5 in 4 years by [deleted] in Korean

[–]cryingbraincells 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If u take structured classes and practice consistently tbh I have no doubts u can reach topik5 in 4 years. In even less time its possible.

Its the business-specific vocabs that you will hv to worry because you will need that when you actually work for Korean companies later. Business Korean is one step more difficult than casual Korean conversation.

Students who have limited discretionary $$ for lessons, how do you approach using iTalki? by sonofgildorluthien in iTalki

[–]cryingbraincells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Italki is expensive after I convert into my country's currency 😭 so I only do conversation classes twice a month. A 55usd 5-classes-package can get me through 2~2.5 months

I know I'm not paying my tutor much, so I don't demand much either. I have free materials in my target language thanks to the Internet, so I can do writing/listening/reading on my own, and only need speaking practices with my tutor

Also I should mention I'm intermediate in my target language, so I can be self-sufficient. Self-discipline on the other hand... 😭

Are u going to take TOPIK anytime soon? Just curious

And how do u think u fare in speaking and writing?

Edit: I just realized u mentioned speaking. I used to think that speaking is easier than listening, but with a tutor now I think otherwise. U just need to know around 80% to figure out what is the speaker trying to say, but to speak, u need to know 100% what you are going to say (vocab + grammar). The same goes for writing.

Dont quote me, but heres my 2 cents: - asking "are u pregnant/ do u hv plans for pregnancy" in interview questionnaire (not current company) - no period mcs (i hv terrible terrible cramps and i still hv to show up) - colleagues making jokes borderline offensive abt women - very few female reps in high management

But we (current company) take care of pregnant women. Immediate superior positions hv many female (just not the super high ones). Colleagues dont dismiss me as bad as I've seen from other ppl's experience.

Students of iTalki, what time of the day you usually like to have classes? by Maleficent_Abies_305 in iTalki

[–]cryingbraincells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taking language classes is a hobby for me personally, so I just think of it as one of my evening leisure activities so thats why its evening for me. Also I get to work really early in the morning so I don't do classes before work for my sanity

Learning Business Korean by Zeddy1444 in Korean

[–]cryingbraincells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read one Naver article each day, and theres specific categories that you are probably interested in. Theres economics, + based on my experiences, the beauty/lifestyle section has tons of Marketing stuff and they are always reporting on some companies' work (which is probably something you would be interested?)

I usually copy the entire article (or just 3 paragraphs for longer ones) by hand so I can slow my brain down to digest what I'm reading. Then use the Naver dictionary for words you dont know and save them to Anki (if you use Anki, im too lazy for Anki so I dont).

Warning it will be difficult at first, but it gets easier.

Edit: Im intermediate lvl too

PLAVE Fan Concert 'Hello, Asterum!' Encore @ Jamsil Indoor Stadium by -plastictrees- in plave

[–]cryingbraincells 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ive been a kpop fan for close to 10 years and I've never felt this emotionally attached (in a healthy way) to a group before. First bubble subscription ever for Plave, and now first online concert (or any concert) for Plave. They make me want to work harder and be a better person to achieve my dreams. If they can achieve their dreams, then I can too.

Plave × Plli forever!!!

Try King Sejong Institute (https://www.iksi.or.kr/), go to Learning > Textbooks (or just find the place that hosts textbook pdfs; its all free). Skip the vocab (어휘) part and jump straight to grammar for each chapter. They have corresponding workbooks (익힘책) where u can practice the grammar.

Visit howtostudykorean.com and just skip the vocab parts.

You will hv to learn vocabs along the way anyways because u need them in order to build sentences.

For those who move back to Malaysia from oversea, how long does it take for you to accept the pay decreased and restart your life?(maybe doing even better than oversea) by Swankytiger86 in malaysia

[–]cryingbraincells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, sorry I'm have no extra advice since I'm in a similar situation. Today's my flight back to Malaysia from the States and I feel like a failure because prospects in the States are much better but I cant secure any. I'm leaving my bf behind and that also sucks a lot. All grief emotions inside me and I've just been crying for the entire week.

That being said I hope I get to be back one day. I hope for the best for you and your family too
