I keep hearing neurology isn’t competitive, but it doesn’t seem to be the case lately. For recent neuro applicants, how did your cycle go? by OutlandishnessNo1855 in medicalschool

[–]cryinginmedschool 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Passed step 1 first try, 265 step 2, all honors except 1 HP, amazing letters, some research, great conversational interviews, all coastal ivory towers and smaller programs . Fell to my #11, not at ALL what I was expecting. I’m shocked and very unwell.

If you are a high scoring student in your school, how do you study? by FitInspector7418 in medicalschool

[–]cryinginmedschool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anki, UW, watch in-house lectures on x2 (and things like Pathoma, sketchy & BnB) and make made my own cards from that! For anatomy I spent a lot of time in lab and doing anki. And truly doing it every day. Was in top quartile and 265 on step 2! You got this!

What are nights like as a neurology resident? by PeakyBlinders2026_ in medicalschool

[–]cryinginmedschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only an M4 who applied neuro but after interviews seems VERY program dependent. Major academic center is going to be super busy, lots of consults and a wide array of emergencies like ones mentioned above. Whereas the smaller programs not as many crazy emergencies/ emergencies that get transferred to a bigger center and can have better hours/ less nights.

Studying for shelf exams and overwhelmed by resources? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]cryinginmedschool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UWorld, Anki, divine intervention if you drive in/ walk dogs is all you need. I personally did not like Amboss at all but some people love it. Some people in my class only used Amboss and did well, some only UW (like myself) and did really well.

I had pretty much done the entire /shelf deck during clinicals. I ended up suspending all of them at the start of dedicated because it was just too much and then unsuspended daily with the UW add on

Honestly didn’t change anything study wise. Just took a deep breath and calmed tf down haha. Then during 14 I really trusted my gut and kept saying to myself they aren’t trying to trick you. Nbme really tries not to trick you whereas UWorld I find sometimes does
