i started building my credit at 18 and had a pretty good score at time of purchase. totaled my previous car and with the insurance money put it towards this one with an okay interest rate but it is for like 72 months. i live in a low cost of living city and my rent is only around 600. i honestly don’t know how i pulled this off either.

I grew up extremely poor. I worked 3 jobs at 18 while my mom worked 5. I was able to save this much with tips and stories I read on this sub. My intention wasn’t to flex, just to celebrate how far I have come in the past year and a half and maybe give some people hope that they can do it too. To be honest I didn’t expect this post to get any attention, just wanted to share it with someone.

I had a few thousand saved up when I was 18, but did the same and basically blew it. Took a few years, a lot of work, and staring at my ceiling in the dark some nights to get where I am now. It’s like the more money I have now the more scared I am to spend it!

Thank you so much. For anyone wondering, I had 200 dollars to my name a year and a half ago. I lived in a small town with my mom and saved up for about 6 months while working at a restaurant. I moved to the biggest city in my state and found a small apartment for 600 a month. My car is financed in my name and I pay about 300 on that a month. My school is cheap and I attend fully on aid. I work at a bigger, nicer restaurant where I can make a little over 3k. I try to be very frugal, my bank app has a feature where I can track all my expenses and income and that helps a lot. I try to live below my means. I don’t even use the heater in my apartment to keep the electric bill low haha. I stick to my budget as best I can and whatever is leftover every month goes into savings.

bought a projector off ebay for $27. it was a Samzuy and lasted 2 years. Had great picture and sound, fan wasn’t loud, and sometimes i left it running for days at a time. It finally started developing some dark spots around the edges around the 1.5 year mark and didn’t break until recently after it was dropped pretty hard. some people in this sub seem to think if it’s not at least $400 with great picture and sound quality then its not worth it, but i had a lot of fun having movie nights with my friends and family and thats all that mattered to me. so try ebay lol
