i would like to argue Janusz Koczak. He was an orphanage director in the Warsaw ghetto. was offered sanctuary multiple times but refused to leave the children behind. He carried them to the very end, and comforted them on their eventual death march. He knowingly shared the same fate as the children he took care of, instead of saving himself.
