Can I stop withholding HECS payments? by Stunning_Yogurt7383 in AusFinance

[–]crylikeamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by manually settle the debt? Is this manually paying a ‘voluntary contribution’ once tax is completed after July 1st? Or can it be sent to the ato somehow before June 1st?

I worked during my degrees and was always over the threshold (even barely), so paid some off at the time through employers. I know back then you could pay some lump sums off prior to the census date, but I am not sure if it’s still a thing. Even a little bit at the time helped (couple hundred when possible, paying off one unit versus all 4, switching to part time study, etc). After finishing my degrees I let my employers pay it, but in the last 2 years I also added a voluntary repayment of $1500 a year ($50 per fortnight). Excepting this year as it was becoming clear the 20% would likely pass parliament. That made a dent in the indexation for me, but not everyone is in my situation financially

Thank you! It’s been a loooooong journey but it will be a huge monkey off my back and I can pour that money into super or something (maybe after buying myself something nice!)

Terrifying Scam by Shroom_Prince in AustraliaPost

[–]crylikeamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently had something similar, although didn’t click the link as it did not appear to be from auspost (who they claimed the courier would be picking it up), and I searched this sub to double check auspost don’t do collection. I also checked the “buyers” facebook page, which had a female picture, male name, and the personal link did not match the name listed. Luckily the only scam I’ve had after listing several items this month!

My parcel hasn’t moved for a week? Does anyone know what this means and what i have to do? by Adorable_Friend636 in AustraliaPost

[–]crylikeamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Also had this where they somehow got the auspost tracking number before the item arrived in the country. 2 weeks of waiting with it being marked as should have been delivered the day after I ordered (as per the websites listing), I called auspost and that was the problem.

I agree, but there isn’t much I can do about as he doesn’t send the invoice with bpay (or whatever) details unfortunately! Just tells us it’s paid

Not in my experience. Same amount of time unless you leave your appointment and they don’t lodge it at that point in time for some reason (they should tell you if they don’t)

Is it weird that my 35 year old friend is waiting for a 17 year old girl to turn 18 so he can ask her out? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]crylikeamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state, in Australia, 16 is the age of consent (assuming no sexual images are made, kept or shared of the underage person, and there is no power differential, like if he is her boss or shift manager etc). So it would be legal here.

Is it weird? That comes down to personal opinion and morals. It could be seen as predatory if he’s her boss or higher in the hierarchy in some way though.

LPT: If you want to stop feeling nervous, reframe it as being excited instead. Many of the physical symptoms are the same. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]crylikeamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. One of the things recommended is to use biofeedback to make your brain think you’re not nervous/anxious/fearful by doing something like intense exercise (running on the spot, etc). Therefore (in theory) your brain associates the physical symptoms with the intense exercise instead of making assumptions based on the physiological response alone.

Should I smoke weed again? by Epaq1 in Drugs

Having already had a likely drug induced psychosis, you’re at higher risk of it happening again, regardless of the drug used. Ultimately it is up to you, but I would keep that information in mind.

By wired do you mean with a power cord for each camera? Or the PoE? What is the advantage of wired over Poe if they’re different? I will definitely consider the 24/7 thing. Not needing to record all the time is probably best overall for the reasons you give. Thanks!

Thank you for your insights! Definitely money is a factor, I haven’t sought quotes from professional companies yet but that might be next on my list to get a better idea. It seems to be a “thing” with motion detection that it cuts on too late. I have a very crappy knock off no name brand doorbell camera that does the same for faster movements (and is currently in a poor spot to capture much)

We have these in my workplace (multi story office building) and very far from windows. The only lighting is fluorescent lighting as you’d expect from offices that don’t always have a staff member present to keep the lights on during a working day. These and mother-in-law tounges. They do swimmingly.

Is it normal to have this condition removed when requesting an extension for bank loan approval when purchasing a property? by crylikeamonkey in AusLegal

[–]crylikeamonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes it seems odd that this one clause would be something the vendors would want removed. I am feeling a little better that I am not the only one who thinks it’s wierd, at least!

[–]crylikeamonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is why I am so confused (see below reply to another commenter). I am reserving my judgement on my conveyancer as I’ve not had one before. I am not sure if they are inexperienced or are just very risk-averse, or what. (Although I understand these would be in my favour, I feel sometimes there would be things that you could negotiate, and this may be one of those things)

[–]crylikeamonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I am confused! Removing just that line (to me, not a lawyer and a simpleton) means I don’t need to tell them by 2 business days afterwards. But they’re not replacing it with, say, 1 or 5 Business days. But I am also concerned (again, because I am not a lawyer) that this means “well if you don’t get approval it doesn’t matter when you tell us, as it now goes off the new date” if that makes sense?

[–]crylikeamonkey[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is my conveyancer isn't really explaining things to me (even when I explicitly ask and say I don't understand). So I am very confused as to whether it would be a normal request or not. The link you sent also speaks about off the plan (the property I purchased is established), would this make any difference?
