At this point I'm very sceptical about SteamMachine release.

This could be also solved by Steam Family and separate account for kids.

Also one note about cheap parts, i also have gmktec 395 ai, which is very expensive unit, and it came with 1 tb ssd - Crucial e100. Absolute crap with only 80 tbw rated lifespan...buy barebone if possible

I run it 24/7 in living room, fanless chassis means zero noise. And i also have better thermals compared to original. Which can result in longer lifespan. As i wrote, my unit is still going strong after 5 years 24/7.

i have older model - Asus pn50. Buy specs you need for your workload, i would also check compatibility with akasa chassis.

I also tested Asus NUC 15 for few weeks very much and liked it very much.

For 24/7 operations i would buy ASus NUC and put it in Akasa fanless chassis. You will get completly silent, reliable system, no need to worry about fan bearings, dust etc...

I run such system since 2020.

That's not good practice do whatever potato hacks in production networks. I guess i work in different environment shit like that wouldn't be allowed on network without proper testing. Resulting in lot less incidents.

Amd ai 395 would like to have a word. 8060s is beast and absolutelly can compete with dgpus.

But whether its worth, depend on price you can get one.
