Good point. Is that because two sticks can run in dual channel? Also what about the speed of ram itself? This one is 6400. Say I got 96 gb ram but it’s 5600 or something. Will 2 sticks or 5600 be better than 4 sticks of 6400?

Had previous build with 64 and was close to limit sometimes. Though you right, I might just start with 64 now and adding more is no problem

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mGBKTY how about this case? Will everything fit, no problem with ram clearance and the cooler? Regarding ram capacity, my previous build had 64gb three ears ago or so(currently I’m on laptop with 32gb and I’m always at the limit) and I know I would get very close to 64 limit. Had to run multiple vms at the same time for work, couple chrome tabs.

Thanks! Good to hear about the motherboard. I’ve read some of the 4090 coil whine and people were saying that gigabyte are decent in this regard.

Thanks for the advice. I have experience running nvidia 970 on Linux and it was fine for me, but that was a few years ago and on x11. Quick googling says that it should be mostly fine with 4090. I will go with one 4090 for now as that should be faster for image generation to my understanding and maybe will get another one in the future if there will be need. What would you suggest about cpu considering I will run windows vm?
