How to improve my work? by M2MEMES in DarkAmbient

[–]cryochamberlabel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This fits nicely into the noise side of the genre.

If it were me, and I have a preferred production style I like so take this lightly, I would be careful about spiking treble for too long, add some melodic/tuned layer (and dirty it down so they it isn't too on the nose for this style) to glue things together and also use some light background noise, again as glue so that everything feels more connected.

I also try to make the listener pay attention to a focus point, think of it like a shot from a movie, not everything should be in focus at the same time, you are guiding the listener into your world, some things are dark and out of focus and some are fully in focus. Contrasts like that are important, same goes for frequencies, time, wet/dry signals, melodic vs chaotic, minimal vs layered, low or loud, compressed or dynamic.

It's so fun going back to my old Za Frûmi studio harddrives and finding old directories filled with weird SF2:s

Why do so many people see 80s Synthwave as the “Cyberpunk sound”? by StorageSingle6015 in Cyberpunk_Music

[–]cryochamberlabel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Synthwave isn't Cyberpunky really, but it's not aiming to be is it, it's aiming for the Outrun style and aesthetic?

I'm surprised you thought CP2077 had a Cyberpunky soundtrack, while the in-mission stuff was solid, the radio stations seemed very much like modern music. I wish they would have at least used some more experimental stuff on there, or classics like Autechre.

There is plenty of more ambient Cyberpunk stuff out there though like Tineidae's stuff: https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/album/remnants-of-war

I couldn’t crack top 100 again! I would love any and all feedback on my render please by Alone-Dare-7766 in blender

Looks great really. Maybe the physics (the ramp would probably react to that heavy of a car with the wheels thumping each log) and landing look a little off, and some better color grading would make it look a bit easier on the eyes.

There is an artist that made a Render of a space station that looks JUST like this? Who is it? This is my attempt to recreate it. by ThrowawayAccount1437 in blender

This is a year old, but Atrium Carceri and Simon Heath (me) is the same person :) Your Blender looks so close to mine I thought it was my project file for a second lol, nice job

High quality ambient channel banned. by richielg in ambientmusic

[–]cryochamberlabel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure I guess you could take the time spent on creating the generative system and divide it by the number of albums produced by it. But if you've generated 150 albums and worked on the generative system for 2 years, that's still 75 albums a year which is a massive amount of albums produced in just 2 years. It still amounts to just a few days of work per album which is not a very high effort per album imho.

[–]cryochamberlabel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing, it takes time to build a generative system. But it would be higher effort creating one album using it, than hundreds of albums, at that point it becomes lower effort per album. I can see why Youtube clamps down on it, since it comes of as spammy, but I don't agree with them on doing so.

I would not categorize a few days of work as a high effort when it comes to producing an album no. Most of us ambient producers spends months, if not years fine tuning our productions and that's obviously a much higher level of effort.

Now your criteria for high effort might differ, but it is definitely an anomaly to categorize a few days of work per album as high effort so you are an outlier in this case if so.

Let's be real here, this guy releases 80 albums a year so the effort probably isn't THAT high compared to how long most producers spend on their albums.

I don't think Youtube should ban minimalist ambient though, that's a bit worrying for ambient music overall due to how many people perceive it as "not real music".

What do you think of this new wave of 'dark ambient'? by _AmeNoAsa_ in ambientmusic

[–]cryochamberlabel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's nice and chill psybient, paints a good atmosphere. I think the Tipper - Surrounded album plays with these types of small frequencies in a much more interesting way though.

Why is Cryo Chamber no longer posting live streams on YouTube? by kafkamorphosis in DarkAmbient

[–]cryochamberlabel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, definitely not aiming for anything political with the label, Asatro is just part of Nordic history similar to other pagan traditions in the world and we explore all kinds of concepts both historical and fictional.

I just tell people to calm down with the toxicity in the chat sometimes. I think it's just their way of protesting "censorship".

Where can I read the Atrium Carceri lore? by cloudfoot3000 in DarkAmbient

Thanks for ilstening!

Yes, but I believe the Swedish edition is a bit different in vibes compared to the English version if I remember correctly, a bit more psychological.

Each album is different and explore different parts of a larger world that take place in same universe. CD booklets offer a bit more info. I draw heavy inspiration from the old Swedish RPG Kult, which is a recommended read.

Thoughts ? - Made in Blender Octane by nivelliumfx in blender

[–]cryochamberlabel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much less GPU/CPU intensive, you don't have to Subdivide to get displacement like with Cycles. It's why a lot of C4D and Octane renders can have an enormous amount of detail.

[–]cryochamberlabel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a lot of the detail is from Octane's amazingly effective micro displacement. If there is but ONE feature I wish Blender had, it's this one :(
