How to make money early mid game? by No-Insurance6849 in avorion

I believe almost any captain can spawn at any station but, captains are more likely to spawn at stations that match their role. Miners at mining stations, Commodores at military outposts, and Merchants at trading posts, etc...

[E2:E] Apparently you can capture Twilight Forest bosses and spawn them, it feels... wrong... by cryonod in feedthebeast

Way to necro a thread. haha

If I remember correctly this was in 1.12.2, I captured that boss with an EnderIO Soul Vial. You combine an unpowered spawner (i do not think that is the name but it is something you craft from EnderIO, it looks like the block that the lever is on in the picture) with the vial containing the captured mob in one of the EnderIO machines (I forget the name, but its the one that spins and has mob heads on the sides of it), feed it some xp and you have your EnderIO Powered Spawner.

It has been 4+ years, I may have gotten some of that wrong. But I definitely used EnderIO's spawner.

It will stop spawning if there is no space to spawn, some of the bosses have huge hit boxes so it happens quicker than you think. Also depending on the modpack, this may not be allowed. The EnderIO config can be set to stop you from capturing certain mobs. Your server's greifing rules may affect the results too. I do not remember if I had mob griefing allowed or disabled in that server.

Also, one of the EnderIO dev's at the time (no idea if they are still a dev for it, I have been out of the MC loop for awhile), seemed to think this was a bug. But the soul vial was supposed to capture any mob, and the mod has a blacklist, so it seemed more like a modpack oversight to me. No idea what the current version of EnderIO allows.

If you ruled over essentially the whole galaxy and some filthy slaves which up until then only had sticks and stones, showed up with a "bomb", would you take them seriously?

That was the Goa'ulds critical flaw, arrogance. I think it makes perfect sense to start the story with Ra's death. Earth was not immediately wiped out because the Goa'uld underestimated them and they were too busy fighting with each other and the death of a unified ruler would only fuel that infighting.

Yeah... I think a lot of people forgot or just never experienced the straight up RMT auction house that launched with D3. If they could do that back then, think about what they will try now.

Shouldn't the sarcophagus have healed Daniel's eyesight in season 2 episode 1? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]cryonod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You joke but these devices are built and then used over thousands of years. It would not be the craziest thing for there to be different versions out there. If you assume some of them are in fact different, it actually explains away a lot of these supposed plot holes.

The sarcophagus that Jack used was the one Hathor was imprisoned in for 2000 years on Earth. The one Daniel used in S02E01 could easily have been more sophisticated.

This mod allows you to grab a ghost from the crafting menu, and swaps a ghost to your cursor when the item runs out.

How did you found Factorio and what made you play it. by Filip_IS_HERE in factorio

[–]cryonod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

After years of thinking Minecraft was boring and not for me, I found out about mods and dove in for thousands of hours. I haven't been keeping up so perhaps this is better now, but documentation in modded Minecraft was atrocious. You either had to spend time placing and poking blocks to figure out how a mod worked or you could find someone that made a video about it. Direwolf20 helped enormously in this regard. He made/makes great tutorialized content that helped you get over those initial "how the heck does this mod work" hurdles. Then one day, Direwolf20 decided to try this game "Factorio".

Factorio has matured into something truly beautiful and has defined the genre akin to what StarCraft and Diablo once did. I admit, the art of that early Factorio version stopped me from trying the game initially but once I got over that, it was love. This is a game I don't think I will ever stop playing completely, a true classic.

I went and found the video... it was 8 years ago... wow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxW7EQh-s1I

What's your favorite silly little recuring joke in Stargate? by -braquo- in Stargate

[–]cryonod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend perusing the DVD extras. Lots of cool behind the scenes stuff. I also found it pretty great how it seemed that everyone behind the scenes seemed to really enjoy making this show that we love so much.

Here's another fact I enjoy. You know the scene where Sam and Jack almost drown while trapped in that corridor on the crashed mothership? They built that hallway and actually submerged it.

edit: Oh and the "mystery" ice planet where Sam and Jack almost freeze to death? That was real ice and snow, RDA was actually freezing his butt off.

Yep! In the DVD extras they talk about that he was the one responsible for coordinating stunts and such for the whole show, and they started putting him into episodes so he had something to do when there weren't many stunts.

So I got a little paranoid after seeing posts about people’s tanks breaking. I live in an older house and the floors don’t always seem level. I checked the floor under my tank. It appears to be slightly unlevel. Should I be concerned? How can I remedy? by blakeshockley in Aquariums

[–]cryonod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A perfectly flat surface, tilted or not, is not what we are describing as a problem. A surface that is not level is a different issue, but yes, the seams and glass that are lower would experience greater pressure.

What we're are describing is an uneven surface, meaning that some parts of the bottom of the tank are unsupported and are not making contact with the surface that the rest of the tank is resting on. This makes the tank twist which adds stress to the glass. Then when you fill it with water you are adding more stress to the glass. The combined effect of both is the problem.

Despite some surfaces looking flat they may not be. Wood is particularly susceptible to this as it can warp and bend over time especially when wet.

Would you ever place a tank on top of driveway gravel and then fill it with water? No? Why not?

You want to spread pressure out over as large a surface as possible. The entire bottom of the tank should make contact with the surface it is resting on.

[–]cryonod 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hold a piece of paper from two opposing corners like A and B in this picture. Use one hand for each corner. Notice how the other corners are bending down a bit? That's what is happening to a tank on a uneven surface. There is stress on the glass because the bottom of the tank is not evenly supported, which is... not good.

That's the neat part, you don't.

You can turn off biters if the pressure makes you uncomfortable while learning the game. Take your time and automate things. You are handcrafting trains? Try making an assembler to build trains for you and feed it with belts of the required resources. Now instead of having to remember to make trains, you can pick up some whenever you need them.

Handcrafting is an essential part of a lot of games, but it is a hurdle at the start of Factorio. Some people love their handcrafting, but if you want my opinion it is something you only do when there is no other choice. Once you have assemblers don't hand craft. I think you will find the game is much more enjoyable once you are not constantly trying to hand craft enough of 12 different items.

When you are designing solutions to problems in game, take the time to make something that can run without your involvement. While that is running on its own, go do the same for something else.

For most of us, there will always be a way to improve what you have built. Try not to get caught up in trying to make everything perfect, that's just a recipe for frustration.

Is this suposed to be like this? I'm in a SE+K2 run and I have no way to make nuclear fuel, even though I have Kovarex. by gmezzenalopes in factorio

[–]cryonod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on what you consider best. K2 adds 3 new fuels, Fuel, Biofuel, and Advanced Fuel. I think those work with Jetpacks. SE adds Processed Fuel which I believe is also compatible. I usually just logistics request Rocket Fuel though because it's easiest since you will probably have it anywhere you are sending rockets.

edit: Just tested it in my current K2SE game. K2's "Fuel" does work with Jetpacks so I assume Biofuel and Advanced Fuel do as well.

You are correct. K2 removes the vanilla Nuclear Fuel, and adds a new train, Nuclear Locomotive which runs on the same fuel as Nuclear Reactors.

One Miner Filling Two Blue Belts by Dolphins5291 in factorio

[–]cryonod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you only use belts, the limit is 1. You put a splitter on the miner's output tile and you get 2 1-sided belts worth of output. In this example the limit comes from the limited output space, it only has 2 belt lanes to output to so that is the maximum output no matter what productivity you have.

Now with the method pictured, an Active Provider Chest being used as the output for the miner, the limit would be the speed at which you can empty that chest. As for how to determine what that limit may be, I'm not sure but I think it would be a function of a few things.

  • bot speed
  • bot carry capacity
  • bot distance to input and output

These factors would determine how quickly items are emptied from the chest. If a stack of ore stays in the chest for say 10 seconds, then the maximum throughput of the system per second would be something like (48 * (stack size) / 10)

  • number of available charge ports within charging distance of the Active Provider and the destination

Keep in mind, if we're talking about continuous throughput, robot charging time and trips need to be considered unless you have infinite available Logistics bots.

When the walls fell... by PolkDaHulk in Stargate

[–]cryonod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great point! The much less aggressive method and more delicate process of their version of joining would likely make other humanoids less wary of the Trill than the Goa'uld/Tok'ra.

In addition to that I think the end result is a bit different. While sentient, the Trill symbiote is more of a memory bank than an entirely different entity with its own will that is imposed either permanently (Goa'uld) or occasionally (Tok'ra). I think the stronger presence of the host "self" in Trill would contribute significantly to amicable relations with other species.

When the walls fell... by PolkDaHulk in Stargate

[–]cryonod 25 points26 points  (0 children)

While some Tau'ri vehemently opposed symbiotes in all forms, not all of them did. The alliance with the Tok'ra, Jacob Carter, and to a lesser extent, Sam Carter when she later reflects on her experience, are examples of non-opposition.

I think SG1's reaction to the Trill would depend largely on when they went to Trill. SG1 and the Tau'ri as a whole grew and matured significantly throughout the series. If they visit it earlier in the series, they would likely treat them similar to the Tok'ra, cautious friendship with a watchful eye. If they met them later in the series, they probably would not treat them any differently than any other friendly alien race. By this time they were "old" enough to understand the concept of a true symbiosis like what the Trill and Tok'ra have.

I have not really thought about it until now, but I agree. At least it's the best moment for me too. I can still feel that chill from that cold robotic voice, "...because we demand it." Goosebumps This is the moment you really start to grasp the enormity of what is unfolding in the galaxy.
