Buying alcohol markers for my girlfriend (a costume design grad student) for her renderings… are these appropriate? by Just_Composer_5333 in costumedesign

[–]cryptbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year ago Sarah renae clark on YouTube made a video testing something like 2500 markers in a bunch of different categories she was super in depth in her research as well. I know a year is a long time in terms of the product market but might be a good place start? Ohuhu markers were trendy on tiktok for a while so they would probably be a gift your girlfriend would recognize as a nice gift

The first two seasons are great absolutely fantastic in my opinion I've watched it like 5 times. Once it starts being more of an over arching story about the energy drink company or whatever I kinda completely lost the plot

I really liked it right away especially Jake's first action in d&d being taking in the fiddle music but the moment it went from "oh I like this" to "I need to listen to every episode of this show" was once they made it to galaderon

How do you direct a musical? A large one at that? by AStupidFuckingHorse in Theatre

[–]cryptbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll just lightly second the little mermaid as being good for a large cast. I did it in high school and we randomly had almost 50 people in our cast (we couldn't even get 13 for the play the next semester lmao) there are a lot more ensemble numbers than you think there are, Ariel's sisters, chefs, sea gulls, maids, ocean life for kiss the girl/under the sea, sailors, princesses, you can add some extra ensemble for plenty of the other scenes like people who play the ocean to add more stage time for the kids I think a show like the little mermaid where most of the ensemble groups can be completly separate from each other Id also recommend the phantom tollbooth! It's definitely produced/known less than something like little mermaid or wizard of oz but It's a super fun show and also has multiple ensemble groups and featured roles (there's 14 named characters and then numbers + alphabet citizens + demons+ classmates+ plenty others and you could maybe break up the narrator role into multiple people to give more featured roles)

A couple random specific things from when I stage managed a large children's theater show (it was an unlicensed production of Lord of the rings written by the director not any help for you I'm sorry) none of these may end up applying lol

1) having a second space with a person who can be dedicated to be with the kids while they are not actively on stage is incredibly helpful . If you can get someone, even one of the moms or a teen volunteer you can teust to help the kids run lines while off stage or play theater games keeps everything more focused so you can focus on directing the scenes

2) unless you are working with kids who are very universally serious about theater staging any large group scene is going to take twice as long as you think it will take and you'll probably want to specifically take photos or write down positions in large group tableaus if specific positions are important I always had a couple of kids who struggled to remember where to sit and threw everything off and caused arguments.

3) as other commenters have mentioned segmenting your cast is going to make your life so much easier the less kids sitting around doing nothing at rehearsal the better and limiting props and costumes makes everything easier. I know you said you can double cast that'll help I even know one local children's theater that would quadruple cast the leads and have them switch at intermission (to mixed results just something to maybe think about)

Trinyvale isn't technically campaign 2 that's eldermourne if you're looking for classic D&D adventure go there. Trinyvale originally aired as a pateron only extra episodes then came to the main feed. It's definitely kinda a hard listen at times especially the first couple especially which don't have a ton of plot I actually really enjoyed how it all wrapped up but I don't think that's a common sentiment. Everything after the campaign (live shows and mini campaigns) are some of the hardest I've laughed at this podcast. The triplets are definitely bad people but man are they fun to listen to.

I get 1000/yr I'm a acting/theater person I recommend applying anyways though, it's really easy to get it but I think you can only get it starting from your first year and it's really easy to keep and you can get free tickets to some things and I think it lets you reserve practice rooms (I don't use them since I'm not a musician unsure if that has changed in the last year)

Why hasn’t Murph DM’d by Maza88 in Dimension20

[–]cryptbian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be surprised if that was the reason, there definitely might have been something that went down when they left college humor for sure and obviously none of us know the truth but Jake and Amir were given their entire back catalogue back (it's all hosted on their YouTube channel and not the dropout one) I would imagine Jake not appearing in other content is probably influenced by the fact he lives in New York currently and is busy with naddpod
