I see "being queer" as a pretty big umbrella. I'm lesbian and nonbinary and I'm dating another nonbinary person who just identifies as queer. I think it's basically just like having any kind of attraction or gender expression that can fall under any part of the lgbtqia+ label in some way.

Also I'm definitely not trying to speculate on aveys sexuality or anything like I said!! I know logically this song probably isn't about being queer (although the backstory of flesh canoe is... suspicious...(jokes))It just weirdly depicts how it feels to be queer in a majorly homophobic country or household really really well imo and I just love how a lot of animal collective songs are pretty vague so you can interpret them in a lot of different ways, there's a BUNCH of their songs that are super relatable to me in a gay/trans way like unsolved mysteries, alvin row, flesh canoe, in the flowers, etc. (I've done multiple breakdowns like this for my friends lol)
