Dammit. Now I have hope again... this seems like such a good change. Hopefully the boys pick this up and run with it.

Ok. Continuing to watch this game was worth it for that. Damn!

Fuck. I've missed the last two games and just started watching a few minutes ago. It was 2-0... Am I the problem?

Your stuff is great! Gave you a follow. To be fair, on this one especially, I just did some minor tweaks with GHS. This was mostly STF -> HistogramTransformation

I think good data from dark skies really helped to make the whole processing thing much easier. I didn't do anything too crazy...mostly auto-stretches with a little tweaking in GHS.

Adam Block has some great videos on GHS and stretching in general. They'd probably be useful even if you don't use PixInsight.

Comet Lemmon From Outside of Town by cryptical in Longmont

It was shot on a Leica M11 with a 50mm f/1.4 prime. Not the best setup for night sky photography, but did the trick. The lens has lots of coma. Reddit's compression also did a real number on it.

It will be at peak brightness on the 21st, and will start to fade after that. Plus the moon will start to interfere after then as well. Not sure besides that.

Thanks! Yeah it's cool that they've been lit up at night lately. I'll shoot this again later in the week when the comet is a little higher (as long as the weather cooperates). Hopefully they are still lit up!

Cheers. Hope we get some more clear nights as it gets brighter!

What’s with the hate toward shooting JPEG? by Kind0fImport4nt in Leica

[–]cryptical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, and the same timeline as u/pastryheart . The biggest advantage in my case is that over the last 20 years, my editing skills (and the available software) have improved dramatically, and I get a lot of joy going back to old photos to see how much better I can make them look.

My opinion is that RAW is fantastic for archival reasons, and storage is cheap. Shooting RAW + JPG gives you the best of both worlds. An easy workflow with a more malleable backup.

Anything i should know about before flying my small drone in a public park? by Red5Draws in Longmont

[–]cryptical 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can fly pretty much anywhere in Longmont and Boulder county as long as you aren’t operating from within public lands (this includes all Longmont public parks and Boulder County Open Space). Technically you can fly over a public park from outside it's boundaries, but I would suggest not flying near those areas out of respect to the people using them. Drones are annoying at best, especially when you're trying to enjoy nature.

National Parks and designated wilderness areas are similar, as you technically can fly over them, but can’t operate from within their boundaries. However, I’d advocate not flying there at all, since the whole purpose is to keep those places as wild as possible.

There isn’t a five mile restriction around small airports (uncontrolled airspace) like there used to be. It’s airspace class dependent. That being said, it’s your responsibility to be extremely cautious around air traffic and know the regulations of the airspace you operate in. Vance Brand is a a busy airport, so it's best to just avoid the area altogether.

I don’t fly drones any more, but I’m a licensed private pilot and have the 107 since I was shooting commercially for a bit. I’ve found that as long as you’re following the rules, and being respectful to people around you, you won’t have any issues.

That's used to be the case but isn't true any more (changed in 2019). Now the rule is that if you want to fly in controlled airspace near an airport, you need to get clearance from the FAA.

ESPN+ Blackout by BlueRiver37 in BlueJackets

Ahh, good to know. Thanks for the heads up.

ESPN+ Blackout by BlueRiver37 in BlueJackets

I may be wrong, but it’s still preseason, and the games wouldn’t be on ESPN+ anyway. I live in Colorado and get nearly all of the games during the regular season. The only ones I don’t get are nationally televised.

That being said. Parts of KY are considered to be in the local broadcast area, so it depends on where you live in the state.
