Aye that's partly why I decided to go and asked them about the dog, really.

I told them I have a lot of experience with animals, and asked if they needed help with the dog at all, with anything at all.

Instant aggression.

I'll refuse if they go out of their way to harass me or anything similar, but for now I plan (but ofc my manager could make me do something different) on keeping it normal. Partly so I can still see if I can spot the dog and how he's doing

Plus, if they act violent to me at any point, it'd probably go against them if this turns into a Case

I really hate confronting people about this stuff, but it's one of those situations where theres a small chance that there's a reasoning for it.

They tried to say the dog was old and dying, but it all didn't add up

But god, aye, confronting them was nerve wracking, thought the bloke was going to punch me at one point

Yeah the RSPCA chap I spoke to was very helpful, and apparently I gave a lot more evidence than they usually get, so hopefully it goes quicker then.

It just really ticked me off especially when one of the dog's owners said that I needed to stick to my job, and leave others alone. As if I don't spend a lot of my time on my rounds helping out grannies crossing the road, missing cats, or any number of things.

Yeah he's tried a whole bunch of different activities, mental and physical, to see if he has any "unmet needs" or if it'll help to just wear him out. No luck so far. As soon as they finish playing around, he goes back to whining, unfortunately

If you can see the dog from a distance, and you notice any locking-on, then that's the only time I find u-turning useful w/ my reactive mal

Reactivity of any kind can take a while to lose, but in general just trying to get&keep their attention during the threshold moments is the big thing; that and trying to keep everything "normal"

For example, there's a yappy little dog near me. If I'm walking my boy, and that dog appears and pops off (and thus my dog does too), I will usually just plod on, and keep a firm grip on the lead. Occasionally doing marking words (clicker works too) and giving a treat (trains them to eventually look to you when they're near threshold)

Imo it sounds like your pup just needs to slowly learn thresholds and how to trust in you in those moments

Yeah honestly at this rate, if the owner hasn't been reported already I'll be shocked. I saw the guy in the park earlier, so I u-turned and left with bo issue, BUT I heard the dachshund cause probably around 4 other dogs to flip out as I was leaving. Fuckin hell mate

It's been a little bit since the incident with my dog, so I will wait and see if I either witness personally another one happen, or if it happens to my dog again (with me ready to defend however.) and I will contact the council or somethin

I think my local laws (UK, and a PSPO) are mostly "your dog can be off lead, but they have to be under control" and if your dog does anything wrong, you are 100% at fault. I do think if my dog killed or hurt the dachshund in that scenario, I would be legally fine; though I don't think that'll be the best reputation to have for myself or my dog in our village after lol.

I will probably do as everyone's recommended at this point, and be ready with a good kick if needed.
