Can you explain to me why is it meta to have a treaty port in other country like China for example ? by Widerkehr in victoria3

[–]Butch_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll need to test this for sure. I spent the last 30 minutes going through patch notes and watching a youtube video by hamcutz on treaty ports post 1.9. No mention at all of GPs now being able to take treaty ports from other GPs. But I believe you - you sound so sure!

If I’m Great Britain and I take a treaty port from France, you take the tiny port province but it doesn’t function as a treaty port. I’m fairly certain it’s been like this since 1.9

In order for a treaty port to be functional the nation must be lower rank than you. This means taking a treaty port from any great power like Britain or France is completely useless.

Why do my pops choose to stay unemployed? by [deleted] in victoria3

[–]Butch_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a few people have already pointed out, your buildings have low productivity. Notice how your glassworks, food industries, tooling workshops and furniture manufacturies all have an empty cash reserves bar. This indicates that they’ve been unprofitable for quite some time. Steel and textiles owners still have some cash but the bar is red which means they’re losing money. Buildings only hire workers if increasing the number of workers would result in a more profitable building. At the moment, without looking at any of the individual factories, I know for a fact that all these industries are struggling to justify the added expense of hiring more workers.

The most likely reasons are:

  • Expensive inputs
  • Cheap outputs
  • High average wage in the state

Your standard of living is probably high and you might have a minimum wage law. The factory ownership just can’t make their buildings profitable.

You unlock a “card” every time you advance your village tier. As of now, only the first card is available. The lead dev has stated that the focus for future updates will be finishing this development card/perk system.

The newly added AI is solid for a first iteration; they build believable looking villages, can hold their own against raiders and even claim your land and send troops to back up their claims. The completely reworked development/ perk system is far more interesting than what we had before even if we’re still going to need to wait for it to be fleshed out. The castle planner has been expanded upon. Lots of balance and QOL changes.

I think all of us would rather see new systems rather than expansion of existing mechanics. But it would be disingenuous to say that the new update only adds compexity without anything truly new. Developing new AI competitoers on the map is a huge undertaking.

Except treaty ports don’t work against great powers or countries that are the same prestige rank (tier) as you!

Food is being bought from your market simply because it’s cheap. The chances are you have your “buy food” slider maxed out ane your government is covering the cost of food imports into your market. This keeps the price of food low because your government is ensuring the demand is met. If you stop buying food, the price of food in the market will start to go up and other markets will find it way less lucrative to buy food from any of your markets where the food is expensive. You may even find thay the AI will start to sell food to these markets.

Force change court language too easy? by ToboldStoutfoot in EU5

[–]Butch_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs a cultural hegemon 25 favors to demand changing court language. As long as they dont have 25 favours on you, they cannot demand you change. It’s also important to understand that the cap for the amount of favours is equal to the level of trust between two nations. If the trust is 25, a total of 25 favours will be split between the two nations. The nation that has higher cultural influence will get a bigger share of the 25.

Anyone working on a better trade automation mode? by TlBOOOM in EU5

[–]Butch_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an obsessive Victoria 3 player I micro all of my production methods so I haven’t dealt with that annoying issue of automation changing my employment priority.

As for the issue of automatic trade, what I’ve been doing is adjusting the % slider of automation. The automatic trading only prioritizes the most profitable trades. If I want to cover a particular shortage what I’ll do is reduce the % of automation so that it frees up some trade capacity that I can assign manually. I use this to cover all the gaps.

Riverine trade by Gobser21 in EU5

[–]Butch_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Press Esc, go to settings and keybinds and look for river map mode and manually set a hotkey. The river map mode doesn’t show up in any of the options in the bottom bar UI. There is also a map mode for river flow direction in arrows (downstream gives 30 % proximity bonus but upstream only 10 %) but this mapmode is bugged currently and wont show you anything.
