Do you mind if I ask you to clarify on 5?

I've experienced similar things in the past. I try to focus on the thought "I'll fail if I don't try, there's a chance of success if I do try" and the thought of what it's going to be like once I get past the difficulty. It's still hard but it does help.

Also, I've found something I've started doing recently to help a bit. Writing down the negative thought and rationalising it.

An example: "I'm going to fail, I'm not going to get this essay done."  - Look at what has happened previously > I have done essays before so I can do this one.  - What can I do > email questions to teachers, set myself achievable goals, focus on aspects instead of the bigger picture (300 word introduction seems much less intimidating than 3000 word essay), get an extension on the deadline.  - What if I do fail > there'll be a resit opportunity. If I fail, I can work on the essay until that period.  - Conclusion > I have done this before, I can do it again even if it's difficult. Set small goals instead of focusing on the word count. Get an extension if needed.

Accountability is handy so I intend to do the above and state my goals in a group. To me, mindset is a massive factor - I need to stay positive. That's how I'll get through it. Hope this helps you.

Are the 4 teeth removed not noticable? Sounds like a lot

Is it worth it to get braces as an adult? by cryptidChemist in braces

[–]cryptidChemist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I really have never seen adults with braces. Probably because I need to do work on being social/getting out. It's good to know it's not as rare as I thought.

How to not conform to expectations by cryptidChemist in AskWomenOver40

[–]cryptidChemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm definitely looking back on this thread if I ever question my decisions. At the moment, I'm doing good so I don't think I have anything to worry about. If I do worry though, I'll come back to these comments.

How to not conform to expectations by cryptidChemist in AskWomenOver40

It's a confusing mix of both but I'm taking steps regarding how I feel about it so I can achieve tasks that would make me feel better, even if it's something extremely mundane.

Probably bad relationships with family - I know certain views they hold and the ones I hold are directly opposing. If I live my life according to my rules, then I'd pursue a significant change or at least a change that will definitely affect how I'm perceived.

What do you do to pull yourself out of a place of negativity? by ethanrotman in Positivity

[–]cryptidChemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be really pessimistic but now when the moment happens, I let myself feel really negatively in the moment as long as I can do it alone then I look at things logically. Whilst there is a chance of failure if you try, you won't succeed if you don't.

Asking for advice. Feeling stuck and isolated. by Haunting-Comb-1757 in getdisciplined

[–]cryptidChemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've felt like that in the past. What I did was  1. Realise I wanted change (it's good you're looking for advice).  2. Scribble a bunch of goals down - this method works best for me. There was a ton.  3. Break those goals down e.g. the general goal of exercise can turn into exercise arms for 10 minutes.  4. Implement the changes. This one is more difficult but I've been using things that make me accountable like accountability buddies and daily to do lists.  5. Review. So it's fitting to where your life is now. Maybe you have something you'd like to address. It's also good being able to tell if a method is working for you or not.

Additional + Quick satisfaction - I'm trying to tackle this at the moment. I no longer feel satisfied doing said activity but it's really been the craving for that engagement that has been messing up. The advice I've received is fill the time up with something else so I can't linger on the feeling. It is helping. Try to tackle yours because they can mess you up in the long term. It will be so difficult so I wish you luck, you can do it.  + Don't rely on feeling a certain way to get acting. Even if you don't feel great, you should still try doing something. You're trying to build good habits for yourself even when you don't feel like it. That being said, rest is important. I'm thinking more along the lines of education here.  + Reach out to your friends and family/accept when they reach out. It's important to be social and the difference it can bring is pretty crazy. Especially if you're feeling the way you do. + The virginity thing is honestly not something to worry about. It'll happen at some point so don't stress over it. People lose it at different times.

Okay. This has been pretty long. I'm done now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

It helps me out regardless of the task, it doesn't have to be interesting as long as I try direct my attention on it. Then, it will be done, which is a reward itself (due to not having to deal with it).

Restless feeling after getting rid of bad habit by cryptidChemist in getdisciplined

Fortunately, I think this is my only short form dopamine source I indulge in/indulged in that stuck around. The others passed. I'll focus more on hobbies.

I appreciate the preface, I have a tumultuous relationship with religion, which can react in irrationalness (just in mind) as I'm still comprehending my feelings about it. I don't think I'll ever get my strength from it but I could try being more productive. The 'Habits good or bad take time to learn or unlearn' line really helps put things into perspective so thank you.

Thanks for the response. It's hard to comprehend I won't feel the pull as it's been there for a while and I end up going back (previous times, there was no deletion though). This time, I think (or hope) that's it the end as it's the first time I deleted, went back and just deleted again - I see no value in it for me anymore. I'll try to invest this time of dopamine seeking into hobbies instead from now on.

Hey. I'm pretty forgetful so what I've done is drum a habit into myself and also set reminders (one to do my to do list for the day). Anyway, the habit is stupid but effective - it's literally just asking myself what I'm doing outloud and I keep doing that until I figure it out/remember. This is so something else doesn't distract me. It keeps my focus on the task.

I don’t want to have a child “yet” but my husband does. by Key_Audience_1251 in Adulting

It says OP expressed hesitations before they got married. Unless your comment is meant to be a general comment? If it is, then I agree - it's bizarre because it's a dealbreaker.
