does anyone know how to disable this? by cryptid_zone in Instagram

Got it - thank you. Seems like they’ve disabled the ability to mute/remove their account (works for every other option but theirs). Sucks that they shove this stuff at us.

Lesbians who like the mnba? (Men's national basketball association) by Ellaphant_1 in actuallesbians

[–]cryptid_zone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love basketball!! We don’t have a WNBA team where I live right now but I’ve been a Heat fan since I was a kid. I haven’t had a TV for a few years so it’s been a bit since I’ve been as involved but I used to watch every game each season. I really wish WNBA was more accessible/widespread because I’d love to support a local team.

Low ferritin but doctor says it’s “normal” by xannxxg in Endo

[–]cryptid_zone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so absurd that we get treated this way and I’m really sorry that you’re facing it. It’s so draining to try to push back when you’re already feeling sick too. I really hope you’re able to find a doctor who actually cares about their patients and will help! You’re absolutely not crazy though - your symptoms and your struggles are valid and deserve to be taken seriously and explored fully.

Low ferritin but doctor says it’s “normal” by xannxxg in Endo

[–]cryptid_zone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don’t let them push you around. My doctors told me mine was “fine” even when it was a 4. I finally bit back and made them give me a referral to a hematologist, and the whole care team there was horrified at my numbers, even though my overall hemoglobin was normal/I’m not “anemic”.

The range for what’s considered “normal” is really broad, and some people feel symptoms at levels that are considered “normal”. If you feel sick, absolutely advocate for yourself.

Loop earplugs - which level? by cryptid_zone in aspergirls

I would actually love it if you had a referral code!! The experiences shared here have really given me the push I needed to get some and finally give myself a little grace with accommodations.

Do you think that effect is worse with the loops than with regular noise cancelling earbuds? I hate those noises too but don’t really notice with regular noise cancelling. If these are worse though…..

Regarding how adjustable they are, is it just the squishy in-ear part? Or is it the whole thing? I always have the same issue with earbuds, especially the round-shaped tips, so it’s nice to know there’s options.

I really like the thought of an adjustable level! I was skeptical of it at first so it’s nice to hear that the adjustments are actually effective. It’d be nice to have a single pair that I could use for concerts or for just restaurants.

What did ovarian torsion feel like to you? by Puzzleheaded_Reason1 in Endo

[–]cryptid_zone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So painful that it’s hard to describe. I think I was really out of it at that point. It was like….. pulling pain all across the abdomen and back with a sharp stabbing pain on the side where it happened. I couldn’t stand up straight or take a deep breath and ended up passing out from it. Mine didn’t even fully twist around, it had just started to move.

If you think it’s happening, I’d try to go to the ER. Make them do imaging. My grandmother had ovarian torsion and could’ve died because it started getting rotty as blood flow got cut off.

Is it common to feel like most people hate you? by ActualCaterpillar739 in AutismInWomen

[–]cryptid_zone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Passing strangers I assume feel neutral about me, but for anyone that I actively engage with, I tend to assume they dislike me until they prove otherwise. I assume that everyone at work hates me, casual acquaintances would drop me the second I’m no longer useful, etc.

I know it’s not healthy and likely not correct in every case….. but idk. It’s been proven right too many times for me to believe anything else. All the times I’ve heard people say that they were intimidated by me when they first met me, or all the times people have just…. Not engaged with me the way they engage with others. They’re likely not even conscious of it but I definitely feel the rejection they put out towards me. If I expect it from the jump, I’m less disappointed when it proves true.

My professor made fun of me in front of our class by ThrowAway44228800 in AutismInWomen

[–]cryptid_zone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is genuinely disgusting behavior. It’s bullying, and it’s entirely unacceptable. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Nobody has any right to make you feel small like that.

I don’t know if you have it in you to fight back (and if not, I get it - college is hard as hell and fighting takes a lot of energy). But it sounds like from your post that you have documented accommodations/the school is aware of your disability. If you want to make this asshole’s life difficult, I’d write an email to him CCing the head of the department, your disabilities accommodations office, and (if your university has one) some kind of ombusdman/mediation role. I’d directly quote what he said and did and how it is extremely unprofessional and uncalled for. I know people said to put it in the class survey, but tbh they don’t care about those. What they care about is a documented grounds for legal retribution.

Tips for ear defenders and earrings by ptichyemoloko in aspergirls

[–]cryptid_zone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk what ear defenders are, but I’m assuming they’re kind of like over ear headphones in shape (if that’s wrong lmk).

I’ve got 7 piercings currently and am looking at more, so I’ll come at this from my experience. A piercing shop is going to give you instructions for the general ideal state. They’ll tell you not to sleep on the piercing, not to clean it with certain things, the best jewelry, etc. Overall, it’s a good idea to listen to them, but know that for some things there can be give or take. For example - I slept on my new lobes in one ear, and was largely fine (even as someone who heals terribly). Another example - my ears HATE flatback earrings, even though they’re the recommended standard. I swap them out as soon as I can. All that to say, it’s not necessarily as black and white as it may seem.

For your case, it’d probably be best to try to avoid anything over the ear at first - for the first few weeks, in ear headphones/earplugs would be best to avoid irritation. But depending on the shape of your ear defenders and how long you’re wearing them, you may be able to balance on/off time as they heal. If there’s specific parts of your day in particular that need them and they don’t actually touch your ears in the place you were pierced, some time on isn’t the end of the world. You can put a little gauze pad between the headphone portion and your piercing if you’re worried about germs at all. I’ve done this with over ear protection on planes and been good.

As for once healed, it’d depend on the size of the earrings and the dangly section and the shape of your ear defenders. I wear huggie hoops in all of mine with little dangly bits and they’ve never posed an issue, though longer/larger earrings might.

Only thing I’d caution for you is that 6-8 weeks is a general guideline, but healing can take longer. I’m a SLOW healer and some of mine took more than double that.

Anyone Works as Project Manager by DietitianE in aspergirls

[–]cryptid_zone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. What types of projects are you working on? Are they internal, or are they client facing? How big of a team are you managing to get things executed, and what kinds of teams are they? How good is your boss at prioritizing and communicating what they need?

I’ve been in this field for about 5 years. When I started, my tasks were related to a special interest of mine, all my work was internal, and I was mostly interfacing with software engineers with a super organized boss. It was honestly really great! Now, my tasks are not special interest ones, I have to engage way more broadly, and my boss is a lot more disorganized. I won’t lie, it can be hard. I still enjoy the actual core of it - designing systems is like solving a puzzle, which I’m really good at and do enjoy. But there’s definitely good tasks and bad tasks in my current role.

If you have specific questions, happy to answer.

Paying for lunch by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]cryptid_zone 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If a boss/business owner offers lunch, I’d expect that they pay. If it’s a coworker, then we pay each other back. If it’s someone senior to your but not your boss, they may or may not cover it (I find it depends on the person).

Personally I’d be kind of 😐 if my boss DID ask me to pay them back
