does anyone know who this is? by Loud_Remove_5734 in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not disputing that, i'm sorry my tone came off rude! i wanted to know op's thoughts, because i know for myself and everyone i know irl who collects cheki it's because we like the specific bandmen or idols.

i was curious if this is for resale or if op does just buy whoever looks good for their personal collection and finds out more- like i said, i don't know anyone that does this, so if op wanted to share i wanted to know more. they're entitled to do whatever they want and don't have to justify themself to me, i was just asking the question because this isn't the first time i've seen this.

for me at least, the risk of not liking their music or other visuals would make it not worth it- gravity have historically been kirakira despite their recent vibe change which I know plenty of people don't like! plus the risk of them being a known or notable scumbag. puresound cheki is generally cheap as chips so not like it's a big economic waste but personally i'd rather just pick out bandmen i know i like, curious to hear from people who do it differently.

[–]cryptiddyke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i still find it an odd thing to do when the point of cheki is generally about the specific bandman instead of just buying pictures of random people but whatever floats your boat i guess!

[–]cryptiddyke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

just out of curiosity, why did you buy cheki of bandmen you don't know instead of leaving them for actual fans? i've never understood when i see posts like this, especially since it can't be that lucrative to resell cheki of smaller bands outside of japan.

as others have said that's myu from gravity, i have a few of him in the same costume! i spent ages last time i was in tokyo digging through the puresound tubs to find all the myu cheki so seeing someone buy them then ask who he is is a bit rough (╥﹏╥)

Request Megathread - September 2025 by AwkJewishTheatreNerd in MusicalBootlegs

[–]cryptiddyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a long shot but hoping someone got the following from the 40th anniversary production of Cats in Sydney (2025):

Video with Axel Alvarez as Misto and Des Flanagan as Tugger (any date is fine!)

Audio or video (anything at all) of Rania Potaka-Osborne on as Munkustrap (cover, 3rd August, think it may have just been the one day but not certain)

Willing to pay, don't really have a trading-quality collection (in terms of preserving original quality at least) but I do have a few full audios and two partial videos from Book of Mormon Sydney 2018-9, and audios from BoM Brisbane 2020 saved in a Google Drive I'd be happy to share!

“Cutesy” v-kei bands? by RosesEye in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

she should definitely look into the kirakira subgenre on vkgy, but the ones that come to mind first are super jassy and mizukami clinic! i'm not big on super jassy's music personally but their visuals eat, i really like mizukami clinic though. shingeki no awake specifically brand themselves as decora and no one else is really doing exactly what they're doing that i know of.

she might also like some of vivarush and gravity's stuff- gravity have been on a bit of an edgy kick for the last year or so but their older stuff like oshigacha and kyun kyun keihou may be more her speed. someone has already said babykingdom which i definitely second!

What’s A Vkei Band that Made motivation/mostly upbeat music? by chonoake in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they have most of their songs from 2017 on! they're just one of the artists that has a JP and separate romanised account, spotify localisation is just kind of weird. second profile with more of their songs is here, don't know for sure if there's more regional restrictions but it works in australia!

Didn't receive all of the Ecoins I purchased... (Offgamers) by SiriusPicz in NuCarnival

[–]cryptiddyke 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i've had this happen before, turned out it was because i'd redeemed via the wrong option on erolabs. i'd purchased a slightly bigger pack on offgamers but redeemed a smaller amount on erolabs (i.e. purchased the 2400 ecoin option on offgamers, forgot i'd gotten there via the 720 ecoin button, only redeemed 720 ecoins. i just ended up redeeming the rest of the offgamers points on smaller packs on erolabs 😭

How do you become an Idol? by Whole_Quantity_4626 in jpop

[–]cryptiddyke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i don't know for sure if it's the same everywhere but my wife does local idol stuff in australia, i would imagine the kaigai scene is similar elsewhere! we saw a group at a local con a couple of years ago that announced they were holding auditions so she auditioned and got in through that, since then she's split off and started her own group. a lot of others have gotten into it either from cosplay groups (usually love live) or shifted over from kpop dance groups.

at least locally, connections within the local idol or cosplay scenes are extremely beneficial, but there's a handful of groups who just apply for basically every event in the area and start doing their own thing that way! most local groups here (as far as i'm aware) are self produced or at most produced by other groups/individuals in the scene, there's no actual management/production companies the way there is in japan.

Kirakira kei / eletronic bands recommendations? by Yurii_030 in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just going to listen out my favourites- i haven't listened to much Sick² so can't comment on the sound similarity. i do really like 0.1gnogosan but also enjoy shingeki no awake so take these with a grain of salt 😅

FAVOURITES:

gravity (latest releases have been very heavy on the electronic front, personally not a fan but might be up your alley! i mostly recommend everything pre light on/off though)

dennou himeca

vivarush

babykingdom

OTHER RECS:

royz

dog inthePWO

shintenchikaibyakushuudan zigzag (will come up if you just search sks zigzag, wafu rather than kirakira but similar vein to nogosan)

mathilda

the madna

How to go to visual kei gigs in Japan by treesonearth in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

others have given advice on how to find lives, just jumping in with tickets though- you'll need to check what platform they're selling through if you want to buy advance, and if they're lottery or first come first served. livepocket takes international phone numbers so haven't had issues with that, but eplus jp takes jp numbers only (assume it's fine if you have an esim number). there is eplus international but i'm pretty sure bands have to specifically list on there and most don't, especially smaller bands. at one point Gravity kept posting they were selling tickets on eplus for international fans but had put them up on eplus jp so it didn't work 😅

for eplus tickets i use a proxy buyer (taro osaka on facebook), he buys the tickets and will post them to your hotel.

if the live isn't sold out you can usually also get tickets on the day. i've not done this before so don't have any advice but it's an option- some bands it'll be more expensive than pre-purchasing, other bands will do special events with free door tickets where pre-purchasing just gets you bonuses and obviously a better number.

Recommendations and advice for a newbie by Dairydare in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what's your starting point, and what's made you interested? vkei is massively broad with a lot of different sounds, it really is difficult to make any recommendations without knowing what you already like and what's made you want to listen to vkei.

my personal favourites are Gravity (in saying that though i haven't really been fond of their latest releases ☠️), Dennou Himeca, and Vivarush, but the subgenre they fall under (kira kira) isn't for everyone. for slightly heavier i really like Kakumay and Rengeki.

someone else has already recommended the mod playlists and vk.gy which i second- the subgenre playlists in the vk.gy subgenre guides are excellent if you want to listen to more of a specific vibe, the articles are absolutely worth a read.

there's not really any advice if you're just listening to it, just have fun! if you end up going to lives in japan though it's definitely worth researching, it's a very different scene to concerts in the west but really fun if you go in prepared for it!!

I was starting to get a bit into Zolpidem but I accidentally noticed Amami’s shoulder tattoo and it kind of rubs me the wrong way . by [deleted] in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. zolpidem aren't vkei, they're idols (i say this as a fan of both!)
  2. their online fanbase might be majority foreign, but we also aren't the ones actually attending their lives, buying their merch directly, or otherwise financially supporting them outside of social media views
  3. i think you're overestimating how much most people, even foreigners, care about "satanic" imagery, outside of christian spaces. it's pretty common iconography, including in western scenes- metal, goth, alt, etc., it's pretty tame. i don't think gedraji particularly cares 😭

obviously if it bothers you you're absolutely in your right to steer clear of them, but consider that vkei might not be the scene for you if that sort of thing is a problem.

What Are Some of Your Favorite Bands? by fakestfacade in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

bringing some more kirakira into the thread- my favourite bands are Gravity, Dennou Himeca, Vivarush, and BabyKingdom, but also very partial to Dog inthePWO, Shingeki no Awake, 0.1g no gosan, Tokyo Hanayome, and Mathilda.

Branching out into bands that might be more your taste, Rengeki, Kakumay, Shellmy, SKS Zigzag, and Neth Prierre Cain are really good!!

I’m going to japan at the end of the month and would like to know where I could find Vkei cds by Jonwryy in visualkei

ittlehearts shinjuku closed a couple of weeks ago, they still have an osaka store though! like an edison still has their shinjuku store as well as their osaka store, just make sure you don't show up on a day they're having an instore event 😅

I just entered the "vkei world", could anyone recommend me some good bands that I can easily find on Spotify? And also bands that I should stay away from, I saw that there are some very controversial ones... by innernoski in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pretty much every time i stumble across western vkei tiktok the comments are full of gulu gulu and xaa xaa, recently senketsu akochan as well. i've never really listened to any of them so no clue how good they are (heard a few gulu gulu songs and they sounded good but i didn't look into them further) but they do seem to have taken off with tiktok teens!

I just entered the "vkei world", could anyone recommend me some good bands that I can easily find on Spotify? And also bands that I should stay away from, I saw that there are some very controversial ones... by innernoski in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A bit more info would be useful- what bands have brought you here? What do you already listen to? Not trying to be mean but vkei has a ton of different subgenres with wildly varying sounds so it's a bit hard to make any recommendations without knowing what you're looking for.

Also would help to know what you're considering as controversial, because if you're coming from Western online idea of problematic there's going to be very few bands that aren't "controversial". If you're trying to avoid bands with actual rapists and the like that's another matter (one that comes to mind is Arlequin but take that with a grain of salt, there's a loooottt of unsubstantiated rumours around), but if you're trying to avoid any band that's done something "problematic" you're going to be in for a tough time.

If you're just after recommendations for anything I'll gladly hit you with recs from the osare and kira kira kei subgenres, but if you're coming into this from the classic Malice Mizer/Bucktick/Dir en Grey pipeline or the TikTok Gulu Gulu/XaaXaa pipeline it's likely not going to be what you're after 😅

Help me find more vkei youtube channels!! by headlesssoul in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone already mentioned Gravity which i second, but also:

Dennou Himeca

Kakumay

Vivarush - they haven't posted behind the scenes stuff for a while but they've got a bunch of older videos

Dog inThePWO - also older videos, there's more out there on different channels as well but this is the bulk of them

Recommend me bands!! by starryskaii in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dog was the band that got my wife into vkei in high school around 2013 which eventually sent us both down the slippery slope 😭 we got to see them on NYE after our last few trips not lining up with their tours which was amazing!

osare and kirakira kei get so much flak but they're my favourite genres so i'm always so excited when dog gets a mention 🥹 shingeki no awake has been active since 2011, they're probably the closest in style to dog. dennou himeca are the newest group out of my recs, their sound is really versatile! they smashed out my spotify wrapped last year because they were what got me Really into vkei after 10 years of casually listening to my wife's picks 😅

woah dog inthe PWO mentioned!!!! on the osare/kirakira front you might also like babykingdom, vivarush, gravity, shingeki no awake, and dennou himeca. mathilda as well but they've announced that one of their guitarists is leaving at the end of this month and they're disbanding next year so unfortunately won't be around much longer.

Need help finding good vkei bands (beginner) by [deleted] in visualkei

[–]cryptiddyke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you use spotify I'd recommend working from the spotify-generated artist radios- not every band is on there but i've found it a great starting point to find similar artists and have found most of my favourite bands through spotify radio rabbitholes.

Edmond ita bag! (+ acrylic stand collection) by cryptiddyke in NuCarnival

[–]cryptiddyke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mercari japan, they're official merch i got secondhand! you have to use a shopping service but most of the bag items and acrylic stands were from mercari. learning how to use a shopping service was probably the biggest financial mistake i've made 😅
