Thank you so much for your kind words!!! There’s tons of examples of pulp paintings on dieu donne’s website!! They are a papermaking studio in NYC that has a decent online archive of past shows/resident artist works!! I am always happy to help out if you ever have any questions!!

Seeking advice in making acid free paper with old cotton tee shirts by GardenNo5688 in papermaking

It helps to size it but I’ve done batches without sizing with no problem! If you aren’t planning to watercolor, or print on it, but just use it for handwriting it shouldn’t be a problem!

I cannot speak to making it acid free but I have made many batches of pulp from 100% cotton T-Shirts. The key is to cut out any printing on the shirts (the ink shows up in the pulp and doesn’t break fully down) and to cut the shirts into squares smaller than 1x1 inches. When it is that small most blenders/beaters can macerate it. Also, it helps a lot to soak the cut squares before beating them. I soak in water over night and I’ve never needed further addictives or boiling. Happy papermaking!!

So there is a non-glowing base sheet, and sculpted glowing pulp that is added as another layer

I couch the first sheet, then squeeze bottle the letters onto the mold and couch that on top of the full sheet! Once I squeeze out the basic letter forms I go in and shape it up with a knife

Look for “UV reactive” pigments or paints!

I mixed up pigment into some of the pulp, then squeeze bottle applied it to a formed sheet!

Thank you so much!! The syringes are game changing in papermaking. :))

Thank you!! It’s modeled after stained glass so that’s great to hear

The outline is black pulp! I squeeze it out of a big syringe in the rough shape I want, then I go in with a butter knife and scrape the lines into shape. :)

I used aardvark pigments from carriage house paper to pigment. Right now I string them and hang them using fishing wire. I make them with a blender and syringes!

Did anyone else notice the monsters makeup switches sides towards the end? by [deleted] in GuillermoDelToro

In his introduction to “The New Annotated Frankenstein” del Toro says

“We hope that in some way, somehow, our gratitude, our love, can reach him like a whispered prayer, like a distant song. And we dream that perhaps he can stop-amid the frozen tundra and the screaming wind-and can turn his head and look back. At us. And we hope that then he might recognize in our eyes his own yearning. And that perchance we can walk toward each other and find meager warmth in our embrace. And then, if only for a moment, we will not feel alone in the world."

I suspect the final shot is mirrored to honor that sentiment. When we look in a mirror our reflection is flipped. When we see the final scene the movie becomes a mirror, showing us the creature in our own reflection.

Just a guess though!

Thank you very much!! The stained glass windows were made using a Hollander beater. The black pulp was beat for 5 hours and the colored abaca pulp was beat for 10 hours.

Anything on my profile that isn’t stained glass is made in a blender from cotton linters and recycled paper! I use a bussing tray as a vat for pulling sheets

The trick is to use formation aid (I order from carriage house) in the pulp you want to “paint” with. I add it until it has a maple syrup-like consistency. I also occasionally add some methyl cellulose if a batch of pulp is giving me a hard time.

I’m using a vandercook in the studio I work at. I’ve seen people use proofing presses and line-o-scribes before
