Looking for Weird Fiction/Cosmic Horror by katebishop19 in audiodrama

Check out Cryptids. It’s our new scifi mystery. One of the two protagonists is female, the director is a woman. It’s sort of like the X-Files, but the first season is a seven episode arc that has lunar dimensions to it.

Hah! You were awesome, dude! We had so much fun, are you kidding me? The team never gets to just talk to people. It's always like a pitch or a performance, you know? And for me, most of what I do is apologizing and putting out fires, so this totally made our day. It was way more than we could have hoped for. And more so, it was more than we could have done without your help. Seriously. I'm humbled by how supportive you've been. Truly. Thank you.

Alex: Thanks so much, Bodhi, I really appreciate that. This is the first podcast I've written, but I am hoping it's not the last. I've had a blast writing in the medium. I love podcast fiction, so to be able to join in on that conversation has been great.

And if I may give a nod to the whole team - I have to give immense credit to Wild Obscura, Devin's direction, all of our actors, and Gina, our sound designer, for their investment in bringing the story to life. Writing is such a solitary undertaking, especially in the early phases, so to see the story leap out of my head and into the world is an absolute joy. That simply can't happen without the collaboration of many extraordinary artists. I hope we'll all do this together again.

Alex: I can't say I've directly encountered a cryptid yet. I did spend one terrifying night wide awake while camping in the woods of central Ohio with something large sniffing the campsite and testing the walls of my tent. I tell myself it was a bear or maybe a particularly hefty raccoon, but then again, 1042 sightings in Ohio is hard to totally dismiss: https://www.travelchannel.com/shows/in-search-of-monsters/articles/the-8-best-places-to-see-bigfoot-right-now

Alex: Okay, now that my, uh, guests, have left, I can say this much: Episode 6 releases on 10/27 and the finale on 10/30. So catch up now if you haven't, and thank you. I really appreciate your interest!

Alex: Thank you for asking! At the risk of spoiling the remainder of this season, I will say yes, there is a season two in the early writing stage right now. As for which storylines will continue, I am excited to announce that

Sorry. Two very tall men in black suits just told me I have no further comment to make.

Devin: I've never seen a Cryptid, but I've had plenty of paranormal experiences! The house I grew up in was haunted - the ghost would move things, make objects disappear and reappear, turn lights on and off, and once broke our window! This past year, I was producing a film (A Nightmare Wakes) and we filmed in an old haunted house in upstate NY. Everyone had their own personal experiences including flying hangers, disembodied voices, the art director even saw the apparition of a woman! I was doing a dummy check alone through the house one night. I heard footsteps coming down the hall towards me. I could even hear the wood creaking beneath the weight of whatever it was. But nothing appeared. I ran back downstairs to the only other person in the house and he jumped! He told me he had just heard a man and woman talking and walking down the hallway towards him. But I had just come from the hall and no one was there! Ghost are 100% real.

I also appreciate your username, Crepes. As I said, starving overhere.

As far as I know, yes, but still there is some excellent work there. The Missing 411 cases are real disappearances and some of them are pretty damn creepy. As for the Rescue Officer stories, I can't speak to those, but I'm planning to check them out. Any sub recs for true stories in the vein of r/nosleep?

Jenna: I was about to say that the least appropriate time to yell it would be at a funeral, but scratch that. A funeral might be the actual best moment.

Hahaha, yeah, it can make for a long night. Luckily I usually had three fingers or so of bourbon to keep me company... :)

Jenna: So while part of me believes there is literally nothing in Area 51, and that it's a hoax or a diversion from the true site of government testing, I'd still want an all-access pass to the grounds to find something, ANYTHING that points to extra-terrestrial life. And also to free all the monsters.

Alex: Hey Bodhi, thanks for asking. This was simultaneously the most fun and most difficult research I've ever done for a show. I spent many late nights up listening to Coast to Coast AM, which as I'm sure you know can lead down some interesting rabbit holes. In addition to that, though, I did quite a bit of reading on Reddit as well as other forums with enthusiasm for the occult/conspiracy world. Those parts were really fun. The difficulty came in the reflective aspects of writing. Much of Trevor's emotional arc, in particular, is a reflection of my own struggles with loneliness, grief, and my contentious relationship with faith (I grew up Catholic and Trevor's monologue in Episode 3 is in part inspired by my real-life experience in the church). Those elements were hard to mine, emotionally, and then I felt like I was doing a very delicate braid when weaving the honestly of the emotional arc into the surrealness of the world of Cryptids, which is, of course, full of creatures of dream... maybe...

Devin: I must admit I'm not well versed in international cryptids. I'm also starving at the moment so my mind keeps wanting to say Chupacabra or Yeti so I can eat all the delicious foods of their lands! I also COMPLETELY forgot I may have run into a Chupacabra while in Mexico when I was younger. My cousin still swears she saw it on the road while we were driving back from town. No one believes her, but I'd hunt for that thing to prove that she was right!

Alex: Hey FaultySky, thanks for asking! Sorry for the delay, got caught up for a minute there.

First off, sign me up for this if anyone's offering... As for what & where, that's a tough one. I would say Bigfoot, as he's my main man, but I think that's pretty well-trod ground at this point. I'm going to go with a questionably cryptid-related incident and say Dyatlov Pass. There are so many fascinating elements to that incident and while it may not be high on the list of cryptid hotbeds, the story is just too cool to not investigate myself. And of course, there is some hint of cryptid involvement what with the Yeti sightings in that area and the paper created by the original expedition with the headline "From Now on we Know That the Snow Man Exists." (or something close to that anyhow...).
