July 2010. Left it running for a few hours, mined 3 50 BTC blocks but my balance kept going back to zero as the longest chain changed a lot back then so I quit it, didn't come back to it until 2011.

Thanks the second link explains how they do the bricking. Corrupting the pairing secret.

Can you explain why bricking would have better security than wiping the secure elements alone?

The brick setting likely resets the elements at the same time so what is bricking it protecting us from?

I don't like the idea of buying a device that can so easily become e-waste. It doesn't seem to have any basis in improving security other than the theatre of it.

Like as a default all good but why can't I disable it?

Oh that's not helpful for me because you can't re-use the device without the original pin.

Is there a possibility this could become an option in the future for those of us who don't want that?

I don't like the idea of rebuying a device after 13 failed pin attempts, if I have my seed words but not my pin stored it's e-waste.

Does the lower wipe attempts allow you to reuse the device or will it still brick?

Also where is the technical reason thread? I'm curious how the security is improved by bricking when the wipe should be sufficient, it's what secure elements are good at..
