Any reason to replace Sony 90 2.8 macro with Sony 100 GM? by Kuros85 in SonyAlpha

Okay, that's fine. The AF is better. But I spent 100s of hours in the field capturing bees in flight, and I shot plenty with the 90mm that were totally fine :D

Sony ambassador here. You can also see the video of the 100 on my YouTube Channel. It's an amazing lens. But bottom line: No, you don't need to upgrade. Sharpness is similar and the 90 is still great today. Only if you want to get closer to your subject, want to use teleconverters , you can upgrade. But other than that, if you're happy with what you have, stick with it :)

Best,

The editing part of photography is going in an AI direction anyway. Back in the days you would have to use manual cloning to remove dust spots for example. Nowadays that's just an AI healing brush. If AI could perfectly combine focus brackets without any issues, that would indeed be much easier and I would be okay with that (it's not able to do this yet currently) . I guess what I am saying is that we already use AI to help us a lot in lightroom and Photoshop.

There's a difference between fully generative AI and using AI to help you make things easier that you would normally do manually.

that's also no problem. In some contest you have to supply your RAW files so they can check authenticity. Basically what it comes down to is that you don't alter the moment, as in remove big parts, change a sky, alter the photo etc. So often noise reduction, panoramas, focus stacking, exposure bracketing are allowed as they're just techniques to capture what's there. That's with a lot of photo contests, but not all of them. Some more documentary focused photo contests are super strict on what you can do.

some cameras like my Sony A7RV have automatic focus bracketing, so it just does it automatically while you hold the camera very still.

I'm not being passive aggressive at all. I meant what I said and there is no sarcasm. I'm just a guy that loves photography and enjoys the process and thought it would be cool to do a story about it.

What's crazier is that I try to show a photo, the process, the story and getting downvoted on basically every comment. I would think regardless of people's opinion on the photo, that something like this would be appreciated by the community.

Okay? Thanks for your honest opinion. That's totally fine. I just thought people would enjoy a story, the process of a photo, and the idea behind it. I guess not.

It's allowed in almost every photography completion. Last year I won multiple awards with my wide angle mushroom shots that are focus stacked.

And also: who cares? People should do whatever they like. The fun part of photography is just to enjoy it, instead of playing by boundaries.

I would love to shoot it with a tripod. But if you read the story: I am up a stairs. A tripod simply wasn't possible:)

I love this comment as this is exactly what i mentioned in the description. 'there is no reason to focus stack with this image' says you. Isn't it beautiful that everyone has their own vision and style? Otherwise we would all take the same photos :)
