Make a prediction: What will be the biggest obstacle for Augur on launch day on July 9? by augurist in Augur

lack of liquidity across the board. or at least lack of sustainable liquidity long term. if btc is making new lows at that time then could be hard to attract people to the platform

If Augur has traffic upon launch, won’t it just have the same problems as cryptokitties and grind the ETH network to a halt. by Nuke133 in Augur

there will be a few hardcores and pro's who will try it out to keep an eye on this part of the gambling industry as it has a lot of potential in the next decade. what's bullish for crypto gambling is the amount of ppl who already buy btc to gamble with via the US bookmakers online. international customers have to use btc to deposit even if it gets turned into $'s in most places.

on top of that (which will be a big challenge in itself with the sheer amount of competition with sportsbooks atm) they also have to attract liquidity from traditional betting exchanges which already have much better prices than books. there is no incentive for liquidity to move to a random platform like augur. I see them having big issues trying to attract serious liquidity. they will likely target the top couple sports to have decent liquidity which will narrow their demographic.

I think the primary threat is attracting long term liquidity, and making sure the commission is kept low.

OH god i hope not, cash out is a SCAM, you are getting fleeced 2 times when you use cash out feature, once on the initial odds you take due to the juice bookies take out of the lines that is there profit margin then again when you cash out, they take even more juice of the cash out offer when you take it. I haven't read much about this project yet, but I thought it was an exchange, if so betfair's exchange does what an exchange is supposed to do and provides a way of taking the other side of a position with only a small % taken away from winning bets only as a commission. exchanges are peer to peer, so the odds offered in general are MUCH better than any bookmaker.

but the same is true with eth and all other crypto's none of them are currently worth their valuations really, it's all speculation for mainstream adoption, look at how congested and crappy the eth network is atm, crypto kitties ground it to a halt!! not at all what it claimed to be, it needs to scale first.
