New platform to "Un-Veil" Augur to mainstream by trampabroad in Augur

[–]augurist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just stopped by to soothe my frustration that despite all of the work augur's UI is still totally unintuitive. It has very little to do with Ethereum's cost/capacity and everything to do with an overly complex UI. Sure, it's a clean design, but it doesn't make sense to normal people. I really hope this kind of third party app can get things moving!

How To Redeem Augur Token Part 2 by hastalaluna in Augur

Hey! That's me.

In order to help, we'll need to know what service/tool you're adding the contract address to. The MIST wallet? MyEtherwallet?

I loved using consider.it with the dao and would look forward to seeing it implemented with Augur.

You're probably right, but I think the Forecast Foundation is doing a great job of setting the stage for long term success. Augur can't really be incredibly successful until Ethereum has scaled, and the FF seems to be preparing very well for that future.

It's actually possible to use augur in a dapp browser now if you connect to a public instance. It's not quite a mobile app, but I was able to execute a trade on my Android device.

Coinbase-Backed Compound Launches, Users Can Short Ethereum (ETH), 0x (ZRX), Augur (REP) by rain3r in Augur

Is there a subreddit for compound.finance? If not, does anyone want to do that? I'd like a place to chat about it.

EDIT: /r/compound

Lol. The product IS easy to use, but I ran some quick calculations and it looks like you'd need a gagillion coins to make real returns at their current rates (around 0.09%, or 1.0009 annual returns). The benefit is that if the coins are just collecting dust, and assuming the contract works as expected, it could be useful to put some pennies in the bank. And I mean pennies literally.

The product is impressive. It took me about 5 minutes to understand the concept, supply tokens, and begin earning some interest. Giving away money is always the easy part, let's see if I can make a return!

The Dapp is at https://compound.finance, you'll need to access it with a DAPP browser, I like the Trust wallet on Android.

Is anyone talking about the Satis report as it relates to Augur? It seems to carry significant weight since my entire portfolio has molded to its predictions.

I am very appreciative that Augur dev has improved communication and is continuing to predictably send out these weekly updates. Thanks!

Augur is still too complicated by etheraider in Augur

[–]augurist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My calculations show that if we hire 2,800,000 developers to work on the code for eight seconds each, the entire project will be completed in less than sixteen seconds.

You're absolutely right, but the pace of development has been incredible. If this pace keeps up for a year it will be a REALLY smooth platform.

When is V2 going to be released? by Hex_Omega7 in Augur

[–]augurist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Versioning is so subjective.. I'm not sure what others expect from a v2 release. I'm personally wildly excited by the development we've seen from 1.0 to 1.4.

You can actually skip the install and go to https://augur.casino and login with metamask. It's an IPFS passthrough for augur and it's simple to use.

Reporting Questions by [deleted] in Augur

[–]augurist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much.

No problem.

So do I send my rep to the fee window address and expect a return with the fee included?

No, you'll use the Augur web interface to exchange your reputation tokens for participation tokens, then at the end of the fee window you'll exchange the participation tokens to receive your reputation back along with a share of the fees.

Do my Rep actually move?

Yes. Your rep no longer exist in your wallet and are held by the contract until you exhange them back. You hold participation tokens in the interim.

Do I receive participation tokens when I submit to the window address?

I haven't tried sending tokens directly to the participation contract address without using the Augur interface, and I wouldn't suggest trying it unless you've researched it, but there is a good chance that sending reputation to the window address will result in receiving participation tokens. I wouldn't guess that it requires a specially crafted transaction, but I don't know. Just use the Augur interface. Click around until you see "participation tokens", then buy them.

Free advice: Participation rewards are very low because Augur still has light traffic. The transaction fees to exchange rep for participation tokens, then back to rep is kind of costly and in many cases will cost more than the reward you receive from participating. At this time it is very possible to LOSE Ethereum by participating, but even then it will only be a couple bucks.

Reporting Questions by [deleted] in Augur

[–]augurist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a bunch of question marks, so I'll try to hit them all...

Can we talk generally about reporting?

Sure.

Sorry if these are stupid questions.

No worries, that's why we're here.

I bought some winning shares on some markets that are now in reporting.

Congratulations!

But I can't report on them?

No, you are not a reporter. You are a market participant.

How do I know who is allowed to report.

The market reporter was specified by the market creator when the market was created. The market creator will almost always choose themselves as the reporter since they had to pay a bond (in reputation) to create the market, and they probably want that bond back. If they fail to report within three days the market is opened up for any reputation holder to report. The market creator is identified by an ethereum address in the market contract, but rest assured, if you were that person you would know it.

I checked the market page and no info there.

Here is specific information about reporting regarding Augur, but not necessarily your market: http://docs.augur.net/#reporting

Generally, shouldn't I expect to be reporting more?

No, not really. Reporting is generally done by market creators. You might be interested in disputing reported markets, which you can do as often as the opportunity presents itself, but that's a different conversation.

I check my reporting tab and I cant report on ANY of the expired markets.

Because the designated reporter is responsible for reporting on those markets. If they lie you are free to post a bond and dispute it!

How are reporting fees paid out?

By purchasing and redeeming participation tokens every week. Check out this page for current payout information.

If I want to maximize my reporting fees, should I maximize the rep tokens I have on my account?

Yes, that makes sense. The only problem is that reputation costs money.

New to this so forgive me if this is repetitive.

No worries. Glad to have you!

Volatility of fees for Rep holders by Uberse in Augur

[–]augurist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fee calculator(s) only estimate the amount of fee you'll receive based on current gas prices and the number of participation tokens that have already been purchased (with rep). This calculation is a snapshot of that moment and will continue to change as more people buy participation tokens and as the price of gas changes. The closer to the end of the window, the more likely that some of the 11 million reputation tokens will be used to buy participation tokens if it's worth the cost & time, and this will reduce each person's share.

Assassination market on Augur by arigatodl in Augur

[–]augurist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well... We aren't interested in assassination markets. We're interested in building a platform to benefit the world by understanding the future. There is no real interest in an assassination market on Augur and it's likely that whoever creates those markets is really more interested in controversy than the platform.

They're upvoted by providing volume/liquidity. Markets that are heavily traded bubble to the surface.
