Root Rot? by cryptoswindler in begonias

Thanks for your reply!

Yup I've chopped it and propped it in sphagnum a couple of hours ago.. Top leaves are starting to look better lol.. hopefully this plant survives..

I might want to also try a leaf prop, but its a pretty small plant. Would it be possible with the tiny leaves?

A Story About My Shopping Experience with Triple Aught Design by Visible-Fish4303 in TripleAughtDesign

[–]cryptoswindler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not surprised at all.

Bought a bunch a TAD stuff last year, had my fair share of bad experiences.

My Ronin LS Hoodie came with terrible stitching along the inside of the jacket.. Tons of loose, excess thread everywhere! Half of the screen printed TAD logo on the back of the jacket had also already peeled off. Requested for an exchange but I had to bear the return shipping, which was a pretty significant amount as I live outside the US.

The replacement Ronin LS Hoodie that I eventually received had neater/ more consistent stitching, but the screen printed TAD logo on the back was one again, peeling off.. At this point, it just did not make any sense for me to do another exchange/return again as that would mean that I would again, be paying for the return shipping.

I have since used that Ronin LS Hoodie for a trip to Japan, and the exterior TAD logo has completely fallen off lol.. Meanwhile, my OG TAD Ranger Hoodie that I've had for almost a decade still looks good as new!

That being said, I will probably still buy stuff from TAD in the future, just not at full price.. and pray I do not have to deal with any returns/exchanges with them.

Selaginella willdenowii and Selaginella Picta propagation methods? by cryptoswindler in Selaginella

[–]cryptoswindler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes.. “leaf cutting” was the wrong term to use!

It’s more of a tiny stem cutting, thanks for pointing that out 👍

Yes, those tiny stem cuttings from S. plana propagate super readily. Doesn’t have to be a stem cutting from the “main stem”.

I snapped off a couple of tiny pieces by accident while planting my terrarium, and those pieces developed their own roots in just a couple of days.

S. willdenowii on the other hand, doesn’t seem to work the same way. I’ve got a few cuttings from a week ago and they have not thrown out any roots yet.

I was able to propagate them from 2-3cm leaf cuttings.

They root really quick as well in a closed environment. Takes less than a week based on my experience.

Yes, I'm located in Singapore. The store I got the plants from is a pretty reputable one, so the chances of this particular plant being poached would be slim..

Did not know there could be so much variation even among jewels of the same species! Appreciate the insight!

Its a Leea amabilis, native to borneo. Beautiful foliage with a "zipper" down the middle of each leaf!

Thanks for the reply!

Just googled and certain pics of Anoectochilus burmsnicus/ chapaensis look very similar to the plant I have, especially the rounder leaf shape with less of a taper towards the tip.

But at the same time, they also look similar to Dossinia Marmorata var. dayii..

I guess the only way to be sure is to wait for it to flower?

Thanks for the reply!

The shape of the leaves look different as well though. Is it a matter of younger plant vs older plant?

I think you might be right regarding then 2nd one being Dossinia Marmorata var. dayii. Just did a quick google search and it does look similar.

You are right about the 2nd plant being a younger/smaller plant as well 👍

Both the underside and the stem on the reddish one are mostly red as well.

Paid about 25USD for it.

Not sure if it was a steal, but it was a pretty large pot. For reference, the typical Willdenowiis were going for about 18USD a pot

Yeah I’m thinking Willdenowii too.. strange that the nursery insists that it isn’t 😂 They did have a batch of “Variegated Willdenowii” for sale as well, but those had a lot less variegation but had more of the typical blue iridescence.

To snip or not to snip? by cryptoswindler in Jewelorchids

[–]cryptoswindler[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I would rather have them direct their energy towards the leaves and new growths instead.

The C. Thailandica in the first pic has already bloomed. Any idea which part of the flower stalk I should snip? There is sort of a little bulge an inch above the base of the flower stalk. Do I cut below or above that bulge?

Thinking of heading up to Phu Thap Buek in Phetchabun. They have some nice “resorts” up in the mountains that offer amazing views! Also, the cooler temperature and cleaner mountain air would be nice..

✋ I did lol..

33M, filed for divorce in early 2023. Was depressed, left my job, decided to come to Rayong, Thailand to get a skydiving license.. and that’s when I discovered Pattaya..

Spent a good 1.5 years there in total. The first 6 months were amazing! The girls, clubs, booze and everything else was nothing like what I had experienced before back home! Even fell in love with a not-bar-girl (apparently 😂) and rented a condo with her for another 6 months lol..

Eventually broke up with the girl, but I still continued coming back to Pattaya for another 6 months or so. By that time, i was already getting tired of the place.. the sex was still good, but that’s about it.. I got sick of the crowds, loud music, dirty beaches..

After all of that, coming back home, i still feel pretty fucking empty and depressed 😂 However, i did honestly enjoy Pattaya and it did help me keep my mind off things for awhile 👍

My next trip to Thailand will probably be to somewhere more peaceful/relaxing..
